Bringing early spring to officers and soldiers on Hon Khoai Island

On January 17, a working delegation from the Naval Region 5 Command and delegations from southern provinces and cities, businesses and press agencies visited, encouraged and wished a happy new year to officers, soldiers and people of Hon Khoai Island.

Before visiting and giving gifts to the units stationed on Hon Khoai Island, the delegation held a flag-raising ceremony at Radar Station 595 on Hon Khoai Island.

Hon Khoai is the name of an island cluster located in the southeast of Ca Mau Cape, Tan An Commune, Ngoc Hien District, Ca Mau Province. Hon Khoai is more than 6 nautical miles (14.6 km) from the mainland; the highest point above sea level is about 318 m and has an important position in terms of national defense and security. This place is considered an outpost, a "sea eye" guarding the sky, sea and land strip in the southwest of the Fatherland.

The island cluster consists of 5 small islands: Hon Khoai (also known as Hon Doc Lap or Hon Giang Tien), Hon Sao, Hon Tuong, Hon Doi Moi and Hon Da Le. This place is considered an island with rich natural conditions, at the same time has an important position in terms of national defense and security and is considered an outpost guarding the sky, sea and southwestern strip of land of the Fatherland.

On behalf of the units stationed on Hon Khoai Island, Radar Station 595, Regiment 551, Command of Naval Region 5 said that Radar Station 595 was established on October 25, 1989, located on Hon Khoai Island in Tan An Commune, Ngoc Hien District, Ca Mau Province, at an altitude of 318m above sea level, 14km from the nearest mainland point, near the international shipping route which is the eastern gateway to the Gulf of Thailand. On the island there are 4 main forces, Naval Radar, Border Guard Station, Forest Ranger Department, Lighthouse Station, there are no people living on the island.

Over the past time, the officers and soldiers of the Station have always been confident in their work, determined to fulfill their tasks, had high determination; strictly followed military discipline, State laws, and regulations of the Unit. At the same time, generations of officers and soldiers of the Station have always promoted the glorious tradition of the heroic Vietnam People's Navy, the tradition of Naval Region 5 and Radar Regiment 551, always successfully carried out the tasks of combat readiness, observation and detection, and firmly grasped the situation of border areas and low-lying airspace within the assigned scope, contributing to firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands in the Southwest of the Fatherland.

Visiting and presenting gifts to units stationed on Hon Khoai Island, the delegation sent New Year wishes of peace and solidarity to the officers and soldiers, hoping that they will always be a solid support for people to live and develop the economy in the border area.

On behalf of the delegations, wishing the officers and soldiers stationed on Hon Khoai Island a Happy New Year, the Head of the Can Tho Provincial Delegation, Mr. Huynh Minh Truyen, encouraged and motivated the officers and soldiers on the islands in the Southwest sea, especially the officers and soldiers on Hon Khoai Island, to overcome all difficulties and challenges; to stand firm at the forefront of the waves and winds; to work and live with peace of mind, to be attached to the sea and islands - to join hands, be united, and be determined to firmly protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

"I firmly believe that after this trip, the image of brave sea and island soldiers, weathering the hardships of daily life on the island, always optimistic, eager to contribute, ready to sacrifice for the Fatherland and the people will be engraved in the minds of the participating comrades and spread to cadres, soldiers and people in each locality, thereby arousing love and responsibility for the homeland's sea and islands," Mr. Huynh Minh Truyen expressed.
