For many months now, the cultural house of Ward 1, Ha Lam town (Thang Binh) has become a familiar destination for the sisters of the Thang Binh Disabled Women's Club.
They came to listen to propaganda and training to improve their knowledge and understanding of laws and policies for people with disabilities. At the same time, members confidently presented their opinions and views on difficulties arising in the lives of people with disabilities that need to be resolved.
Ms. Ngo Thi Luom in Binh Phu commune (club member) said that due to the consequences of war, she had a disability in her legs since childhood, making it difficult for her to move, so she often felt self-conscious and had an inferiority complex.
Before, apart from the small house and the garden around the house, she rarely went out to socialize. For over a year now, she has been encouraged to join the club and participates in activities every month.

The information she heard helped her change her outlook on life; she was also guided to learn how to make artistic flowers and hair ties. With her current income of 2.5 million VND/month, it has helped her improve her family's living conditions.
“Joining the club and meeting and interacting with people in the same situation helps me become more confident and bold, especially I also have income from making artistic flowers” - Ms. Luom shared.
The Center for Health and Population Initiatives under the Institute for Community Development Studies (abbreviated as ACDC) is implementing the Inclusion Project 1 “Support for improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in provinces heavily sprayed with Agent Orange” in Quang Tri, Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue provinces.
In July 2023, ACDC coordinated with Thang Binh district to establish and launch the Disabled Women's Club with 30 members. Currently, the club has 40 disabled women from 18 communes and towns.
Ms. Phan Thi Thuy - Club President said: "Participating in each activity, members are provided with travel expenses, mid-session meals and many other related expenses by ACDC.

In addition, the project also supported the club to establish a group making artistic flowers and hair ties, making 13 types of products, creating regular jobs for 6 women, creating a stable income of 2.5 million VND/person/month; helping 11 members (each case 50 million VND) develop sustainable livelihoods such as buying a sugarcane juice cart, opening a restaurant and doing small business at home.
Integration Project 1 ACDC Center supports the locality to raise awareness and improve the lives of people with disabilities, becoming a trusted address for many disabled women to confidently integrate into the community.
Thang Binh currently has more than 9,000 people with disabilities, of which 5,471 are severely or extremely severely disabled, with 676 women with disabilities. In 2024, the district provided monthly social allowances, emergency allowances, etc. to people with disabilities with a total budget of more than 63 billion VND.
