Ly Hoang Nam started the match slowly and let Susanto break his serve in the third game before losing 2-6 in the first set. In the second set, the two players fought to bring the score to 5-5. At this point, Hoang Nam's courage spoke up, winning an important break to win 7-5.
With the psychological advantage, Ly Hoang Nam broke Susanto's second serve in the third set. He did not give his opponent a chance to break away, gaining another break to end the set with a 6-1 victory.
Nearly two months ago, Ly Hoang Nam lost the men's singles gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games to another Indonesian athlete, Rifqi Fitriadi. At that time, he was sick and could not play at his full potential, leading to an unfortunate defeat. After the tournament, Hoang Nam chose to rest and fully recover before returning.
M25 Jakarta 2023 consists of four consecutive tournaments and Hoang Nam will participate in the second tournament, held from June 5 to 11. The tournament takes place on hard courts with a total prize money of 25,000 USD (about 580 million VND).
Ly Hoang Nam – ranked 265th in the world – is ranked number one in the tournament. In the second round scheduled for tomorrow, June 8, the 26-year-old will face Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong of Malaysia – ranked 1082nd in ATP.
