C CHOOSE YOUR WISH TO BE HAPPY IN STUDYING
In the online television consultation program "Choosing a reasonable 10th grade wish" organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper on May 8, Ms. Nguyen Xuan Mai, Deputy Head of the Examination Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, gave notes on how to choose a wish (NV) before the registration deadline ends.
Accordingly, each student will have one NV registration and one NV change. The first NV registration period ends no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 12. In this first registration, students register for NV and specialized or non-specialized type. Ms. Nguyen Xuan Mai emphasized that parents must think carefully about choosing specialized or non-specialized, because after the first NV registration period expires, the type will not be changed.
According to regulations, each candidate has an average of 6 NV (3 NV for regular grade 10, 3 NV for specialized grade 10/integrated English). For candidates with NV entering grade 10 under the integrated English program, they can have a maximum of 8 NV: 3 regular grade 10, 3 integrated grade 10 English and 2 specialized grade 10 English (project 5695).
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and teachers shared useful advice before the deadline for 9th grade students to register their wishes for 10th grade.
Ms. Mai also noted that when choosing a NV, priority should be arranged from top to bottom, because if a candidate is admitted to any NV, he/she must study that NV and cannot change the order or content. In particular, Ms. Mai also advised parents to choose high schools near their residence with their children so that the 3 years of high school are not affected, making it difficult to travel. And choose schools that are suitable for their children's abilities so that they are truly happy during their studies.
The reason why Ms. Mai emphasized the need to choose a high school that is suitable for learning ability is because according to the 2018 General Education Program at the high school level, from the beginning of grade 10, students must choose 4 out of 9 subjects according to their abilities, interests and career orientation. Depending on the conditions of facilities and teaching staff, each school will have a teaching plan suitable for the students' abilities. If the school is not suitable for their abilities, even if they are admitted, it will be difficult for students to keep up with the program and their friends, thereby affecting their learning outcomes.
"Choosing the right subjects according to your abilities, strengths, and career orientation is very important. This will be the foundation for you to study at the next levels of education... Therefore, making the right choice from grade 10 will help you develop your strengths in choosing the most suitable career in the future," Ms. Mai especially noted.
STAY CALM AND REVIEW FOR THE EXAM
With less than a month to go until the 10th grade entrance exam, many parents and students have expressed their concerns about the exam. Sharing the concerns of parents and students, Ms. Nguyen Xuan Mai reassured: "From the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Secondary Education have deployed expertise to the subject council of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City and districts. At this time, all 9th grade teachers teaching the subjects of the 10th grade entrance exam have clearly understood the orientation and provided full core knowledge to students. Therefore, parents can rest assured, share, and accompany their children during this time."
Homeroom teachers guide parents to register their children's admission wishes to grade 10.
Ms. Mai instructed students that in order to achieve the desired results, they need to allocate time reasonably for the content of the exam. "Students must be calm and confident when doing the test because if they are under pressure, stressed, or mentally unstable, the results will not be as expected," Ms. Mai emphasized.
Similarly, according to Mr. Cao Duc Khoa, Principal of Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1), this year's 10th grade entrance exam is the final exam of the 2006 general education program. According to the instructions of the Secondary Education Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the knowledge requirements in the exam are mainly in the 9th grade program. Mr. Khoa said that all 9th grade students have clearly understood the structure and orientation of the entrance exam. It is still the same knowledge, but in the 10th grade entrance exam, there will be differentiation, content that needs to be applied, knowledge needs to be deepened, and practical knowledge needs to be linked to solve practical problems. Therefore, students should calmly review, systematize their knowledge, practice and practice with the types of exercises, practical application questions guided by teachers and enter the exam.
Is 10th grade in private school different from public school?
During the consultation program, parent Vu Thi Phuong Hoa (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) wanted to learn about the curriculum of non-public schools and schools with foreign elements. This parent was concerned about the curriculum at these schools being similar to public schools, the opportunity for students to be exposed to English, and whether they would be able to compete with public school students in the high school graduation exam.
Master Cao Quang Tu, Admissions Director of Asia International School System, informed that when entering the school, parents have 2 options: Vietnamese education program like public schools and international program according to American standards.
If students study the international program of the Asian International School from grade 1 to the completion of grade 12, they will be certified to have completed the international program. If they choose to study the Vietnamese program, after finishing grade 12, students will still take the high school graduation exam as usual, have a high school graduation certificate like all public school students, and then can apply to domestic universities or study abroad.
Parent Dao Quang Tri, residing in Tan Phu District, is concerned that when entering high school, students will have to choose a subject group to study and orient their career. How is the subject group organized at Tre Viet School, and what are the differences in teaching methods? Mr. Nguyen Van Nho, Vice Principal of Tre Viet Primary, Secondary and High School System, said that the school has a team of teachers with many years of experience combined with young teachers who have been well-trained to implement the 2018 General Education Program. The school's teachers have been applying many modern teaching methods such as: the flipped classroom model, learning from experience or STEM education method. Especially with small class sizes (from 25 - 35 students/class), teachers often use personalized teaching methods to develop training plans as well as tutor each student. As soon as students register for school, the school organizes a capacity survey along with a personality test for students to guide their careers as well as advise them on choosing a subject group. From there, provide a learning roadmap for students from grade 10.
In addition, to control the quality of teaching and learning, the school also organizes exams to assess students' abilities, thereby providing a learning roadmap, helping students adjust their learning methods according to their abilities, ensuring that students pass the high school graduation exam without too much pressure. In addition, Tre Viet School encourages parents not to put pressure on their children when they participate in exam preparation at centers. The school ensures that the teaching of knowledge is adequate to help students confidently pass the high school graduation exam and pass the university entrance exam with high results.
Adjust your wishes from May 14 to 22
After the deadline for registering for grade 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will summarize the number of students registering for grade 1 in each high school. It is expected that on May 13, the Department will announce the above data and from May 14 to 22, parents and students can adjust NV between schools but cannot change the type of specialized or non-specialized education.
