Happy about pension increase
Officials, civil servants, workers, public employees and employees will officially increase their pensions by 15% from July 1, 2024. Thus, teachers are the beneficiaries of this new policy.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Dau Thi Huyen - a former teacher at Le Loi Secondary School (Nghe An) - quickly calculated that her pension after the increase is more than 7 million VND/month. Ms. Huyen expressed her joy because this amount of money not only helps her cover her living expenses but also helps her save for the future.
Previously, teachers' salaries were quite low, not enough to cover daily living expenses. Because of financial worries, after retirement, she decided to do an online sales job to earn some income to cover her living expenses.
“Receiving the official information that pensions will increase by 15% from July 2024, my retired colleagues and I feel very happy. In the conditions of old age, limited health, frequent hospital visits, buying more health support drugs... this increase will help us take better care of our lives. This is considered a gift and also the concern of the Party and State for the generation of retired teachers" - Ms. Huyen confided.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Phan Van Toan - former teacher of Thanh Khai Secondary School (Nghe An) - said that increasing pension is a correct and necessary decision, demonstrating the Party and State's concern for the lives of retired teachers - those who have made many contributions to the cause of Education.
“Increasing pensions is good news, this not only supports teachers materially but also brings joy spiritually. There are many teachers who, after decades of struggling in the teaching profession, feel sad when they retire with a meager salary. Therefore, increasing pensions will bring more meaning and help teachers' lives become less difficult,” said Mr. Toan.
Fear of rising prices
Happy about the increase in pension - contributing to improving the quality of life for retired teachers, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai - teacher at Tu Ky High School (Hai Duong) - also feels happy because her basic salary has been increased by 30%.
However, the female teacher also has a headache because the prices of food and many other items have started to increase. Going to the market for about half a month now, Ms. Mai has seen that the prices of many items have tended to increase compared to before. Every little increase in each item has caused her family to have difficulty and have to tighten their spending.
Worried about the high price of goods, Ms. Mai expressed her hope that the authorities will have solutions to control and stabilize the prices of goods, and not let unreasonable price increases occur when increasing the basic salary as well as pensions.
"This will help us feel more secure because if salaries increase but prices increase, the pressure will be even heavier for teachers," Ms. Mai said.
