Bloomberg quoted a source revealing that the much-awaited iPad Pro 2024 generation could be released as early as early May this year. Many previous leaks confirmed that the iPad Pro 2024 will be Apple's first tablet model to use an OLED panel. At the same time as this device, this year's new iPad Air could be added.
Rumors about the release date of the new iPads have been a bit mixed lately, with a Chinese news site claiming the device would appear on March 26 (which didn't happen), while tech expert Mark Gurman suggested April.
OLED display could increase iPad Pro 2024 price.
The iPad Pro 2024 is expected to keep the current two screen size versions of 11 inches and 12.9 inches, but due to the use of OLED panels, the price of the device will increase compared to previous models.
If users are concerned that using a tablet with a large 12.9-inch OLED screen is too expensive, Apple will offer a cheaper option, the 12.9-inch iPad Air model with an LCD screen.
This may be the first time Apple has announced a new size for the iPad Air line, besides the traditional 10.9-inch size.
The 2024 iPad Pro series is codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721. All four use the M3 processor on the 3nm process and do not rule out the possibility of supporting MagSafe wireless charging (like recent iPhone lines). As for the iPad Air 2024, the device will be upgraded from the M1 to the M2 processor.
In addition to tablets, the manufacturer may also launch new Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard accessories.
During the industry-wide downturn in 2023, Apple did not introduce any new tablet models, breaking its habit of releasing at least one model every year since the first iPad was released in 2010. After a year-long break, Apple hopes to spur stronger demand for new iPad models.
