After taking the math exam, Hoai Phuong - a student at a middle school in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City - felt quite sad because she was worried that she would not get the score she wanted. Phuong was worried that she would not be admitted to a public high school.
"As planned, after the exam, I would go on a trip with my friends to "recharge" my batteries, making up for the days of hard studying. However, after the exam, I was no longer in the mood to hang out with everyone" - Phuong expressed.
Not confident with their 10th grade entrance exam scores, some students have begun to "change direction" to learn about vocational schools.
Confiding in her sister, Hong Chi - a student at Tan Xuan Secondary School, Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City - expressed her wish to ask her family for help in learning more about vocational schools. Chi said that in the recent entrance exam, she was only confident in literature, while math and English were not as expected.
According to the reporter's records, in recent days, some students have gone to Facebook forums to ask for advice on admission scores, looking for "plan B" - such as studying at private high schools, vocational schools, etc.
Ms. Huynh Mai Phuong (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) said she was quite surprised when her son hesitantly asked: "What if I go to vocational school, Mom?"
"Recently, I saw my child researching tuition fees at private high schools, junior colleges, colleges... I know he is worried but still try to encourage him. I also learn more about vocational schools, especially schools that can be linked to colleges and universities" - the mother confided
However, Ms. Phuong still believes that her child has the ability to pass the public high school entrance exam. According to her, the difficult exam is difficult for all students, and she hopes that the benchmark score will decrease this year.
Facebook forums are constantly filled with posts predicting benchmark scores.
MSc. Nguyen Van Minh Tien, Vice Principal of Saigon Polytechnic College (BKC), said that last week, many parents and students came to the school to learn about the 9+ college general education program as well as register for admission to many diverse majors.
"Up to now, the school has enrolled more than 50% of its target, mainly focusing on majors such as engineering, tourism, economics and information technology. According to statistics, more than 90% of students enrolled at the school have good or excellent academic performance" - Master Tien said.
According to Master Tien, secondary school graduates participating in vocational training programs at the school are supported with tuition compensation according to Decree 97/2023. The training program includes 30% theory and 70% practice. Students are exposed to the profession through experiences and visits to businesses from the first year.
