Former President Jimmy Carter's coffin arrives under the dome of the Capitol

The coffin of former US President Jimmy Carter was brought under the dome of the Capitol building before the funeral on January 9.

Ms. Harris was present at the Capitol on January 7 and delivered the eulogy. "Jimmy Carter was a rare example of talent, humility and grace," Ms. Harris said. Republican leaders such as Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson were also present.

The casket will lie in state in the Capitol dome for three days, allowing members of Congress and the public to pay their respects. It will then be transported by motorcade to a ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral on January 9. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump are expected to attend the event.
