2024 National Cai Luong Festival opens in Can Tho

(CLO) On the evening of October 25, the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival officially opened in Can Tho. The major event of the Vietnamese theater industry attracted the attention of a large audience and artists.

The program is organized by the Department of Performing Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), in coordination with the Vietnam Stage Artists Association and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong emphasized: "The festival is not only an occasion to honor Cai Luong - the quintessence of traditional art of the nation, but also an opportunity to discover and nurture young talents. This is a stepping stone to train the next generation, contributing to bringing Cai Luong into modern life and preserving Vietnamese cultural identity."

This year’s festival brings together more than 1,000 artists and actors from 29 art troupes nationwide, from central to local art troupes. The outstanding cai luong works with a duration of 90 - 150 minutes, elaborately staged and newly created since 2017, bring the audience emotional and passionate performances.

The organizers do not limit the theme, but encourage plays to exploit the content of "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" along with themes of national development, arousing the desire for prosperous development. This is an opportunity for Cai Luong to blend into the flow of the times, affirming its role in the spiritual life of the people.

This year’s festival will award Gold and Silver Medals to plays and artists with outstanding contributions. The artists’ achievements at the festival will also be the basis for considering the titles of People’s Artist and Meritorious Artist in the future.

The 2024 National Cai Luong Festival is not only an artistic playground but also a cultural meeting place, where Cai Luong art is spread, shines and continues in the hearts of the audience, contributing to preserving and promoting the national cultural identity.
