Most localities across the country still maintain the organization of students taking 3 subjects as last year, no locality has allowed students to take more subjects than this number. Only two provinces have finalized the plan for admission to grade 10 of high school: Dong Thap and Vinh Long.
Previously, some provinces had planned to test four subjects, keeping three subjects: Literature, Math and English, and adding a fourth subject, one of the subjects studied in the secondary school curriculum. However, the Department of Education and Training of these provinces proposed to remove the fourth subject to reduce pressure on students taking the 10th grade entrance exam.
Explaining this, the Bac Giang Department of Education and Training said that the study time of 9th grade students has been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, keeping the 10th grade entrance exam method the same as previous years is completely reasonable. This is also the last group of students to graduate from junior high school under the old program. Reducing the number of exam subjects not only reduces pressure on the candidates themselves but also reduces worries for parents and schools.
Ninh Binh, Hung Yen, and Vinh Phuc provinces also announced a reduction of 1-2 subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year. Quang Binh is temporarily the locality that organizes the 10th grade exam with the fewest subjects, only Literature and Math for candidates taking the exam at regular high schools.
Apart from Bac Lieu, which held the exam from the last week of May, most localities across the country held 10th grade admissions in early June.
