Pilgrimage ceremony to the source through the Northwest

This is the opening program for a series of activities that will take place from April 15 to 21, 2024 (7 days) of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).

After “Fifty-six days and nights of digging mountains, sleeping in tunnels, pouring rain, eating rice balls, and mixing blood and mud” (To Huu’s poem), together with our army and people, the force of artists and writers formed a military force, actively contributing to arousing the patriotism, indomitable will, and the fighting spirit of determination to fight and win of our soldiers on the Dien Bien Phu front. 70 years after that victory that “resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world”, artists and writers from all over the country made another meaningful pilgrimage to the historic land of Dien Bien.

“Through the Northwest – Returning to Dien Bien” is organized to promote the heroic tradition of our army and people, to express the awareness, affection, responsibility and heart of today’s generation of artists, to demonstrate the attachment and companionship of artists with the nation, the Fatherland, and the people. Through the pilgrimage to Dien Bien, artists will be inspired to create, fueled with patriotism and revolutionary spirit.

Speaking at the Departure Ceremony, Associate Professor, Doctor, Musician Do Hong Quan, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, said that this was a special working trip, both politically and artistically significant. In the hearts of every artist, the images of the Dien Bien soldiers are always engraved, striving to compose songs, poems, dances, paintings, etc. to contribute to the historical land, continuing the tradition of Vietnamese literature and arts.

Exactly 10 years ago, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations also organized a pilgrimage to Dien Bien. That pilgrimage left many good results, giving wings to many new works in many types of literature and art.

Therefore, returning to Dien Bien this time, according to Associate Professor, Doctor, Musician Do Hong Quan, is not only the wish and personal duty of artists but also shows the spirit of the people of the whole country turning towards Dien Bien on this special anniversary.

"I hope that on this pilgrimage, our artists will bring to Dien Bien our spirit, emotions, and pride, and the works we leave behind in Dien Bien will be special, unforgettable marks" - the President of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations emphasized.

The pilgrimage group in the program “Through the Northwest – Returning to Dien Bien” includes artists, scientists, veteran journalists, and young singers who volunteered to participate in the program.

After the departure ceremony, the artists visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and offered incense and flowers to commemorate General Vo Nguyen Giap at the General's house on Hoang Dieu Street before embarking on a pilgrimage through the Northwest, to historic Dien Bien.

During the pilgrimage to the source “Through the Northwest - back to Dien Bien”, the group of artists will travel along National Highway 6 - the vital road leading to the Northwest resistance zone in the past. In each province of Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, the group of artists will stop to exchange art with local artists and people.
