Knock on doors to encourage students to go to new school
Thanh Nien Newspaper has an article titled Da Nang: Parents worry when their children transfer to a new school, reflecting that dozens of parents whose children study at Hoa Bac Primary School, Nam Yen village campus, objected and did not let their children study at the new Hoa Bac Primary School because they thought the road was far and dangerous during the rainy and stormy season.
On the afternoon of September 6, the District Party Committee, People's Committee of Hoa Vang District and People's Committee of Hoa Bac Commune (Da Nang City) organized a dialogue with parents of Nam Yen village after parents expressed their opposition to the consolidation of schools. However, only one parent attended the dialogue, while dozens of others did not attend or did not accept the invitation to the dialogue.
Hoa Bac Primary School (in Pho Nam village), the new facility was invested in construction with a cost of more than 25 billion VND.
At the meeting, Mr. To Van Hung, Secretary of Hoa Vang District Party Committee, said that after receiving objections from parents, Mr. Hung himself went to the homes of parents in Nam Yen village who did not send their children to study at the new school in Pho Nam village to listen to the people's thoughts and wishes.
"The policy of merging unqualified remote schools into main schools is a wise policy. From a professional perspective, choosing Pho Nam village to build a large-scale school is appropriate. Because in the general planning of Hoa Bac commune (Hoa Vang district), Pho Nam village is the center of the commune with the city investing in infrastructure conditions. Besides, the merger aims to meet the best learning conditions for children," Mr. Hung affirmed.
Citing the case of parents going to work early and coming home late with no one to pick up their children, the Secretary of the Hoa Vang District Party Committee affirmed that the government is ready to require schools to open early to pick up students and look after them when parents come home late from work.
Mr. To Van Hung, Secretary of Hoa Vang District Party Committee informed at the dialogue session.
"I think that if 5th grade students have families with financial difficulties and can afford to travel, I am willing to call on donors to donate electric bicycles so that they can go to school early. All for the students," Mr. Hung campaigned.
The leader of Hoa Vang District Party Committee also noted that the local government of Hoa Bac commune should continue to mobilize and propagate to the people so that everyone understands the right and humane policy. "I hope parents realize the right thing to send their children to school soon, the government must mobilize parents to send their children to class," Mr. Hung advised.
Using old school site to make playground
To protest the consolidation of students to the new campus in Pho Nam village, on September 5, parents brought students to Hoa Bac Primary School, Nam Yen village campus (Hoa Bac commune) to gather in the old school yard, not attending the opening ceremony at the new campus in Pho Nam village.
These parents took pictures of their children in white shirts and pants and posted them on social media with the caption "the school opened without teachers". According to the reporter's investigation, although schools in Da Nang City have entered the second day of the new school year 2023 - 2024, students at Hoa Bac Primary School are still absent, the reason is because parents objected and did not send their children to study at the new facility.
Providing more information about the policy of consolidating schools, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang District (Da Nang City), explained that in order to implement the policy of the City Party Committee and the People's Committee of Da Nang City, the district's education sector has recently reviewed and evaluated separate schools with the goal of organizing teaching and better management, and improving the quality of learning.
Mr. Nguyen Thuc Dung, Vice Chairman of Hoa Vang District People's Committee (Da Nang City), informed about the policy of consolidating schools.
"Hoa Vang district has been merging remote schools into main schools for 10 years now. Investing in building new schools and classrooms that meet the teaching equipment requirements of the 2018 General Education Program," said Mr. Dung.
According to Mr. Dung, Da Nang City invested in building the main campus of Hoa Bac Primary School, aiming to bring students from the satellite schools to the main school to facilitate better teaching and higher quality.
"Currently, Hoa Bac Primary School in Pho Nam village has been completed and is merging the separate schools including Nam Yen, An Dinh, Loc My and Nam My villages to study at the new school. This is a consistent policy, and so far, the people of An Dinh and Loc My villages have complied well. However, the people of Nam Yen village do not agree," Mr. Dung informed.
Explaining the issue of the people of Nam Yen village asking why the school was not built in Nam Yen village (at the old facility) but had to be moved to Pho Nam village (new facility), the representative of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang district said that the construction had been carefully studied and was in accordance with the previous planning.
"The district is very responsible towards the people of Nam Yen village. We listen to the people's wishes and aspirations. The consolidation of schools is the common spirit of the Party and the State. It is not like we just randomly build schools and force students from one village to another to study," Mr. Dung emphasized.
Hoa Bac Primary School, Nam Yen village school, was built 20 years ago.
The leader of the People's Committee of Hoa Vang District affirmed that when students move to the new school, the old school will be used as a community activity center, playground, etc. with the spirit of not leaving it abandoned or wasteful.
At the end of the dialogue, parents and local leaders still could not reach a "common voice". Ms. Le Thi Thu Ha, Secretary of the Hoa Bac Commune Party Committee, said that parents in Nam Yen village had sent messages asking the authorities to have a direct dialogue at the Nam Yen village school. "The authorities have listened to this and will organize a direct dialogue to bring students back to school soon," Ms. Ha said.
