Spreading love from voluntary blood donation model

Members of the 20-10 Voluntary Blood Donation Team (Chua Hang Ward, Thai Nguyen City) visited Luu Ngoc Thao.

Based on the special circumstances of two children Nguyen Anh Duc (born in 2010, in group 7) and Luu Ngoc Thao (born in 2015, in group 4), both in Chua Hang ward, suffering from congenital hemolytic anemia, requiring regular blood transfusions to sustain life, the Women's Union of Chua Hang ward established the 20-10 Voluntary Blood Donation Team.

At first, the Team had 12 members, including cadres, women's union members and local residents. The Chairwoman of the Ward Women's Union was the Team Leader. The Team developed specific operating regulations. Every month, upon receiving phone calls from the families of Duc and Thao, the Team members arranged their work to go to Thai Nguyen Central Hospital - where the two children were being treated - to donate blood.

Although some members' blood types do not match those of Duc and Thao, the Hematology Center of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital flexibly changed the blood type of the Team, making it easier to maintain regular and timely blood donations for the children.

For nearly 4 years, the members of the Team have taken turns donating blood, providing valuable blood to help the children become healthier. Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung, an active member, shared: We are very happy to contribute a small part to help the children become healthier. This is not only a humanitarian gesture but also the responsibility of each citizen to the community.

Mrs. Truong Thi Thao, Duc's grandmother, emotionally shared: Previously, all of Duc's blood was transfused by the hospital. When the hospital was short of blood, my family had to mobilize many relatives. During times of blood shortage, Duc was very weak and in pain. Thanks to the aunts and uncles in the 20-10 Blood Donation Team who were always ready to help, the family is no longer as worried as before.

Not only supporting two local children, in early 2025, the Team also helped Trieu Thi Linh Chi (born in 2020, in Khe Cai hamlet, Vu Chan commune, Vo Nhai) with similar circumstances.

Ms. Bui Thi Mai Lan, President of the Women's Union of Chua Hang Ward, said: Stemming from the spirit of "mutual love", the members of the Team not only strictly follow the regulations on health and the interval between blood donations to ensure a stable blood supply for the two children, but also consider this a gesture coming from the heart.

The valuable thing is that they do not stop at donating blood, but also regularly visit and encourage the patient's family both materially and spiritually. These practical actions have become the motivation for the Association to coordinate with organizations to promote propaganda, thereby attracting a large number of people to respond. From a small group of 12 initial members, the Team has now grown to 60 people.

Mr. Vu Van Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Chua Hang Ward, said: The model of the 20-10 Voluntary Blood Donation Team initiated by the Ward Women's Union has brought about double effectiveness. It not only sustains the lives of patients with hemolytic anemia but also strongly spreads the spirit of mutual love. The valuable thing is that the members have maintained regular blood donation for nearly 4 years.

In addition to humanitarian blood donation activities, in recent times, the Women's Union of Chua Hang Ward has also implemented many practical activities and programs to concretize the Campaign to Study and Follow Ho Chi Minh's Thought, Morality and Lifestyle, such as: Building a family model of "5 no, 3 clean"; supporting members to borrow capital; implementing the "Godmother" program for orphans; collecting scrap to raise funds..., demonstrating the spirit of "the good leaves cover the torn leaves". For example, through the Tinh Thuong One Member Limited Liability Microfinance Organization (TYM Fund), the Women's Union of the ward has supported 138 members to borrow capital, with outstanding loans reaching over 1.8 billion VND.

In the coming time, the Women's Union of Chua Hang Ward will continue to promote activities to improve the effectiveness of the model "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", especially the model "Voluntary blood donation team 20-10".

Accordingly, the Association will increase communication through articles and images on social networks to spread the humanistic meaning of the program; diversify forms of mobilization, build funds to better support participating members and reward active individuals...
