On September 26, Son Ca Island Infirmary (Truong Sa District, Khanh Hoa Province) said it was continuing to treat a fisherman from Binh Dinh Province who was paralyzed and lost sensation in both lower limbs.
Previously, at 5:00 a.m. on September 25, while fishing for seafood in the sea about 100 nautical miles from Son Ca Island, Nguyen Huu Thanh (34 years old, a fisherman on a fishing boat in Binh Dinh province) had an accident after diving into the deep sea.
Specifically, Mr. Thanh dived 20m deep to remove the net. When he came up to the surface, his whole body felt cold, he fainted for 15 minutes, had chest pain, and lost feeling in both legs.
Mr. Thanh was taken by a fishing boat to Son Ca Island Infirmary for emergency treatment at 11:30 p.m. the same day.
Son Ca Island military medical staff said the patient had slow contact, severe fatigue, chest pain, abdominal distension, paralysis and loss of sensation in both legs, and was diagnosed with type 2 acute decompression sickness, severe due to deep diving.
Doctors treated him with oxygen, catheterization, IV fluids, anticoagulants, and antibiotics.
After 1 hour of emergency care, the patient was still very tired, had paralysis in both legs, and lost sensation from the navel down.
Currently, Son Ca island military medical staff continue to actively treat, closely monitor, promptly report, and seek professional guidance from military medical staff at higher levels.
