TPO - Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will invest in the intersection connecting Rung Sac road with Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway with a separate project.

The Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported the results of the review of the connection of expressways. Regarding the investment in the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway intersection with Rung Sac road (Can Gio district), the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City said that currently, Rung Sac road is the only road connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai province and neighboring areas to Can Gio district, the traffic connection to Can Gio district is mainly through the waterway system.

After the completion of Ring Road 3 and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, it will create a strategic traffic axis in the Southern key economic region. To enhance connectivity and socio-economic development of Can Gio district; especially when forming Can Gio coastal urban area and Can Gio international transit port, connecting Can Gio district - Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province and other provinces in the region through the expressway system is necessary.

However, according to the Ministry of Transport, the intersection between Rung Sac Road and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway is not included in the project investment scale. Adding this item will cause procedures for investment adjustment, additional funding and prolong the project implementation time, making it impossible to complete the project according to the Prime Minister's direction.

At the same time, the capital for the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway construction project is very limited. The Ministry of Transport has requested the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to study and implement the investment in the Rung Sac intersection at an appropriate time. The Ministry of Transport will closely coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to speed up and complete investment procedures according to regulations.

In Notice No. 16/TB-BGTVT dated January 23, 2024, the Ministry of Transport agreed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee will invest in the intersection connecting Rung Sac Road with Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway with a separate project, for synchronous exploitation.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has submitted a report to the City People's Committee on the investment plan for this intersection with a total preliminary investment of about 2,400 billion VND.

In addition to the above intersection, the Department of Transport also proposed two connecting roads to this expressway, including the intersection between National Highway 50 and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway and the intersection between Nguyen Van Tao Street and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway.

At the same time, the Department of Transport also proposed that the City People's Committee direct the Department of Planning and Investment to urgently advise the City People's Committee to approve the assignment of tasks to the Department of Transport and arrange capital to prepare investment in 2024 (500 million VND) to prepare investment proposal documents for the following projects: Project to complete the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway intersection with National Highway 50 and Project to invest in the intersection connecting Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway with Rung Sac road, Can Gio district and complete investment in Go Cong intersection and the branch connecting Hanoi Highway to Go Cong intersection on Ring Road 3.

Ho Chi Minh City will spend 8,500 billion VND to build a road connecting Ring Road 3 with Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
