For generations, coconut trees have existed and been associated with the Trien area - village 7, Ham Duc commune, Ham Thuan Bac district; this is also the tree that witnessed the changes of this land, becoming a symbol of the will and determination to overcome difficulties of the people here. In particular, coconut trees have brought many benefits, helping many farmers in the Trien area to become rich. Among them is Mr. Le Van Thuan, residing in village 2, village 7, Ham Duc commune.

The Trien area is famous for its sunny and windy sandy soil, so only coconut trees are suitable. Therefore, in 2007, Mr. Thuan discussed with his family to invest in producing this crop with the green coconut variety. Initially, he planted 100 trees, and in 2010, he expanded to 400 trees, planted on an area of 1.7 hectares. He said that green coconuts have strong growth characteristics and deep roots, so they are very suitable for sandy soil. After 2 years of planting, the coconuts flower and bear fruit, and by the 3rd year, they produce stable fruit. The characteristic of the green coconut variety is that the number of fruits is small, an average of 10 - 12 fruits/bunch, but in return, the fruits are large and the water is sweet, so it is very popular with consumers; moreover, this coconut variety is harvested every 20 days and is very stable, so the efficiency is quite high.

In 2015, realizing that the coconut garden was airy, with few weeds, very suitable for poultry farming, Mr. Thuan bought B40 nets to fence around, build cages, and at the same time bought local chickens to raise under the coconut trees. At first, he only raised a few hundred chickens at a time. After many batches of raising, seeing the economic efficiency, he bought an incubator to breed himself to raise the flock, accordingly the number of chickens increased every year, by 2018, it had maintained a stable number of about 3,700 chickens until now.

Thanks to scientific care, Mr. Thuan's model of combined farming and livestock raising quickly brought about results, coconuts and chickens grew well; especially the flock of chickens grazing under the coconut canopy had a wide range of activities, so the meat was firm and favored by the market; in return, the coconut garden was also regularly supplemented with chicken manure, so it grew well, increasing productivity and output. It was this mutual influence and support that helped Mr. Thuan have a high income. Specifically, for coconut trees, he harvested once every 20 days, each time from 3,500 - 4,200 fruits/400 trees, selling at prices ranging from 8,000 - 12,000 VND/fruit for an income of 28 - 50 million VND; In the last 2 years, even though the price of coconuts has dropped to 5,000 VND/fruit, he still earns 17 - 21 million VND/harvest. On average, he harvests coconuts 18 times a year with a total output ranging from 63,000 - 75,600 fruits/400 trees, earning 310 - 380 million VND, after deducting expenses, he still makes a profit of about 270 million VND... For the chickens, after 4 months of raising them, he sells them. Thanks to the pillow breeding, he sells one batch per month, each batch has about 470 chickens. When selling, the hens weigh about 1.7 kg/chicken, selling for 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg; the roosters weigh 2.2 kg/chicken, selling for a lower price of 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg; Thanks to the stable price of chickens, each time he sells them, he earns from 81 to 100 million VND. In addition to selling meat chickens, Mr. Thuan also breeds chicks to supply the market at a price of 17,000 VND/chicken. Each month, he sells 2,700 - 3,000 chickens, earning about 46 - 51 million VND. His family's total income from raising chickens each year reaches over 1.5 billion VND, after deducting expenses, the profit is more than 450 million VND...

“Dare to think, know how to do, farmer Le Van Thuan has diligently promoted the advantages of his hometown's sandy land, turning the green color of coconut trees into a significant source of profit through a combined farming and production model, bringing in an annual profit of over 700 million VND. He is also one of the pioneers in greening traditional Siamese coconut trees on the sandy land of the Trien region, opening up a direction for sustainable economic development, providing high income, long-term stability, contributing to enriching the family and society, and being learned and followed by many people. With a high and stable income, from 2017 to now, Mr. Thuan has been continuously voted "Good Farmer in Production and Business" at the district level..."
