Today, more than 1 million students are taking the 2023 high school graduation exam. What do you personally think about the current pressure of studying and taking exams for students?
When facing entrance exams, it is inevitable that candidates will experience pressure and anxiety. However, today, with many different forms of admission, many open paths, thorough preparation in terms of content, physical and mental health before the exams also partly reduces the anxiety and stress for candidates.
I think you shouldn't put too much pressure on yourself about passing or failing, just enter the exam room with a relaxed mindset. Parents shouldn't expect too much and affect their children's psychology.
What is your opinion about a good school? What advice do you have for students in choosing a school and career?
In my opinion, there is no best school, only the right school. When choosing a school, candidates need to ensure that the factors that suit them are the major, tuition, training program, ability, physical condition, etc. As for the major, it should be based on the criteria of interests, passion, suitable ability, family economy, and social needs.
Candidates should avoid choosing a major based on trends, friends, or majors that do not match their abilities and passions. When choosing a school, students should consider the quality of the training program, international cooperation, output quality, support for learners, scholarships, and the school's connections to create conditions for accessing businesses and job referrals after graduation.
As you mentioned above, the exam is one of the important turning points that makes candidates inevitably worried. So what do you need to do to adapt, control yourself and overcome anxiety at this stage?
Candidates should consider anxiety as a “friend” that helps them prepare better. They need to rest and supplement nutrition during the exam period, and need to arrange a reasonable time to review, balancing between studying, relaxing, and sleeping.
Relax by listening to music, talking to someone who motivates you, cycling lightly, walking in the park. Avoid cramming for exams these days so that you can have the best health and the most stable mentality.
During the final exam preparation and exam preparation period, some students often suffer from anxiety disorders and excessive anxiety. What should students do to balance their emotions during exam season, according to you?
I think that you need to have a clear exam review plan during this period, and avoid studying too much. You should also avoid reading information online about exam failures, as this will add to your anxiety.
At the same time, candidates should avoid gathering with friends and discussing the exam, focus on the exam content and have confidence in themselves. Studying, memorizing, writing, and reflecting will help students remember the lesson longer.
Besides, resting, eating, relaxing, and doing light activities are necessary to help students’ spirit and body adapt well to the exam. At this time, encouragement and motivation from family and hugs are therapies that help students have good energy to confidently enter the exam.
In fact, the expectations of teachers and families make many students feel suffocated and stressed before exams. Moreover, under the pressure of the context and living environment, many young people feel overloaded and exhausted. What should adults do to reduce the pressure on students?
Adults need to be a support for children, inspiring and motivating them instead of pressuring them. Do not set expectations and force them to follow your will, because that will make them strain and feel pressured because they are afraid that if they do not perform well, they will upset their parents.
To be more precise, parents should not push their children into the position of "carrying their dreams". Let your children choose their own path and respect their decisions. Parents should only play a guiding role and should not be the ones to decide for or impose on their children in choosing a school or career.
Parents should tell their children: Do your best, try to stay calm, parents will always be there for you, support and always believe in you. After the first exams, instead of asking your child if they did well, smile, hug them, as an encouragement and create a good mentality for them to take the next exams.
On the other hand, many young people study in good schools, but seem to lack many skills and are very confused when entering life. What do you think about this situation?
The lack of skills among students is an alarming reality. Sometimes, focusing on training other subjects, there is no time left for equipping and practicing skills. This leads to students having difficulty adapting to life and being confused when encountering problems that need to be solved.
Not only that, they also lack flexibility, have poor interaction and communication with others, poor emotional recognition, and are shy to speak in front of a crowd.
Nowadays, the emergence of technology, the Internet, and social networks causes many students to reduce their interaction with real life and switch to interacting in the virtual world through social networking platforms.
To help the young generation become "resistant" to the negative aspects and dangers of modern society, what do we need to do?
We need to set an example for the younger generation and for each other. If we want children to develop skills and adapt well in life, parents and adults must have and equip themselves with knowledge to support and synchronize education, avoiding the situation where school teaches one thing and home studies another.
Create conditions for children to live independently, know how to take care of themselves, avoid overprotecting them because you think they are not old enough. Children can grow up in the arms of their parents but find it difficult to adapt and grow up alone, because of the feeling of dependence.
It is necessary to help children have the opportunity to experience reality, so that they can feel and grow in skills, emotions, interactions with people, and the love of family love.
Talk and confide in your children about what they are thinking and wondering about, helping them to recognize right and wrong, good and bad... orienting them at each stage.
Equip basic skills from within the family such as knowing how to prepare a meal, be neat and clean. Children need to practice tidiness, washing dishes, doing laundry, and hanging clothes out. The family needs to have discipline, living by the principle of doing things at the right time to help children learn to live responsibly and carry out assigned tasks in the family.
In particular, adults should not "pamper" their children with expectations, or be too "obsessed" with achievements. Let children study and take exams in a relaxed spirit, experience and conquer knowledge, not study for the sake of exams.
Thank you!
