Monument of comrade Vo Van Tan in the relic site
57 billion VND from local budget and socialization
According to the Long An Provincial People's Committee, the project to build the Memorial Area, the Memorial House of Comrade Vo Van Tan, Vo Van Ngan and to restore and embellish the Duc Hoa Crossroads Historical Site has a total investment of more than 112.8 billion VND. To ensure the progress of the project starting in 2025, the province has proactively allocated 20 billion VND from the local budget and mobilized an additional 27 billion VND from socialized sources.
This project is identified as one of the key projects to welcome the Long An Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term. Therefore, to ensure funding to complete the project as planned, the province has proposed that the Central Government support the remaining funding of 65.7 billion VND.
Previously, according to the assessment of the Provincial People's Committee, the existing construction items of the Duc Hoa Crossroads Historical Relic Site were degraded, lacking works of gratitude, honoring the sacrifices and great contributions of generations of leaders, cadres, party members, and soldiers of Duc Hoa district in particular and Long An province in general. Notably, the contributions of two comrades Vo Van Tan and Vo Van Ngan in the cause of fighting against foreign invaders and gaining national independence.
Therefore, it is necessary to invest and embellish. In addition to honoring the sacrifice, the construction of the Memorial Area, the Memorial House of Comrade Vo Van Tan, Vo Van Ngan and the restoration and embellishment of the historical relic of Duc Hoa crossroads area have great significance in the work of educating patriotic and revolutionary traditions.
According to Conclusion No. 88 dated February 18, 2014 of the Politburo and Instruction No. 07 dated May 24, 2021 of the Central Propaganda Department, the cost of building memorial sites for exemplary senior leaders of the Party and State will be guaranteed by the central budget. The Secretariat also issued Official Dispatch No. 9043 dated January 23, 2024 agreeing in principle to build this project and assigning Long An province to organize its implementation.
Duc Hoa Crossroads - Historical Relic
Duc Hoa crossroads is one of the important historical sites of Long An province. This used to be the nerve center of Duc Hoa district (now Duc Hoa district) during the period of fighting against French colonialism and American imperialism.
In recent years, the existing construction items of the Duc Hoa Crossroads Historical Site have degraded.
In particular, on June 4, 1930, under the leadership of Comrade Chau Van Liem (Secretary of the Gia Dinh - Cho Lon inter-provincial Party Committee) and Comrade Vo Van Tan (Secretary of the Duc Hoa District Party Committee), more than 5,000 Duc Hoa farmers gathered in front of the District Chief's residence to fight against high taxes and repression by the colonial government. The protest was bloodily suppressed, Comrade Chau Van Liem and many other compatriots and comrades heroically sacrificed themselves.
Duc Hoa crossroads was also the site of many important events in the revolutionary movement, especially the execution of soldiers participating in the Southern Uprising in 1941. With important historical values, this area was recognized as a National Historical Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on September 5, 1989./.
