According to the report of the Steering Committee for Combating IUU Fishing in Kien Giang province, in the past time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment and localities have made efforts in registering, inspecting, and granting fishing licenses for the group of "3 no" fishing vessels for 2,090/2,090 vessels (achieving 100% of the plan) and have fully updated data of all fishing vessels on the National Fishing Vessel Database software Vnfishbase. The authorities have monitored the loading and unloading of goods through fishing ports and wharves in and outside Kien Giang province with a total output of 32,458 tons.
At the same time, the unit has issued 2,653/3,620 eCDT seafood traceability accounts for fishing vessels with a length of 15 meters or more, reaching a rate of 73.3%. All 100% of fishing vessels participating in seafood exploitation have been installed with voyage monitoring equipment. Vessels operating at sea are continuously monitored 24/7 through the voyage monitoring system, allowing authorities to promptly notify captains and ship owners when there is a connection loss incident.
As a result, the number of fishing vessels lost at sea has decreased by 146 vessels and the number of vessels crossing the fishing boundary has also decreased by 9 vessels compared to the same period. In addition, the unit has supported 4 batches for 30,660 fishing vessels with a total amount of more than 5.3 billion VND according to Resolution No. 24/2022/NQ-HDND of the People's Council of Kien Giang province. Through the discussion of delegates at the meeting and in the context of preparing to work with the 5th EC Inspection Delegation, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Giang Thanh Khoa strongly directed departments, branches, People's Committees of coastal and island districts and cities to continue to focus on effectively implementing the directions of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee in the peak period of preventing and ending the situation of Kien Giang fishing boats violating illegal exploitation in foreign waters.

Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Giang Thanh Khoa emphasized that it is necessary to focus on monitoring fishing fleets at sea 24/7 through the voyage monitoring system (VMS). Timely detect, warn and strictly handle violations, especially groups of vessels with a length of 24 meters or more. At the same time, urgently complete the inspection and issue fishing licenses for groups of vessels with a length of 12 meters or more. Review and strictly manage the fishing fleet, prevent the emergence of new vessels and strictly implement regulations related to transfer and change of ownership.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to advise on the issuance of a plan to overcome the shortcomings and limitations that the Working Group of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has pointed out. This is to closely monitor the situation, synthesize and report the implementation results to the Ministry promptly and fully.
The Border Guard Force is tasked with strictly controlling fishing vessels entering and leaving ports; ensuring full documentation and equipment as prescribed; coordinating with functional forces to patrol the Kien Giang sea area at peak times, and strictly handling acts of removing VMS equipment to illegally exploit in foreign waters.
In addition, coastal districts and cities need to mobilize maximum resources in key areas, closely coordinate with Border Guard, Police, Fisheries Surveillance... to step up propaganda, mobilization and promptly prevent and handle early and remotely vessels at high risk of IUU violations. Along with that, request the Provincial Fisheries Association, Rach Gia City Fisheries Association and seafood processing and exporting enterprises of Kien Giang Provincial Fisheries Association and Rach Gia City Fisheries Association to continue to accompany and actively mobilize members to set good examples and properly implement regulations on preventing and combating IUU fishing.
