" Many people will be surprised when I put my trust in players from the First or Second Division and even those who do not play for their clubs. However, through my understanding and assessment, their potential is sometimes even better than some players who regularly play for V.League clubs," coach Philippe Troussier said at a press conference before the match between the Vietnamese team and the Philippines.
The fact that the French coach favors players from the First Division or who rarely play in the V.League makes many fans question. These players are mostly young and have potential. According to coach Troussier, the decision to give the above group of players a chance comes from an advantage that his foreign colleagues do not have.
"I have an advantage because I used to work in Vietnam, at the PVF center and the Vietnam U19 team. I saw the potential of the players. With that advantage, I was able to do that. Sitting in my position, if it were another coach who had just arrived in Vietnam, it would be difficult for them to do this ," Mr. Troussier explained.

Right in this training session, the Vietnamese team has Nguyen Dinh Bac - a player who has just joined V.League with Quang Nam since the 2023/2024 season. Ho Van Cuong has just been registered to play in V.League not long ago, Minh Trong has just transferred from Dong Thap Club to Binh Duong or Thanh Nhan is still playing for PVF-CAND in the First Division.
According to the French coach, he is trying to establish the Vietnamese team's playing style in a more modern way. The current squad was built through friendly matches and training. The players are ready for the first official match against the Philippines team.
"The playing style of the Vietnamese team has almost achieved what I wanted. I have called up 80 players for screening and evaluation. I want to say that the players who were called up but were eliminated were not because they did not meet the requirements, but also because of poor performance at the club or injuries. To look forward to the future, I need 50 players to be ready. We are also looking forward to the Asian Cup, the U23 Asian Cup or the SEA Games," said the head coach of the Vietnamese team.
Coach Troussier believes that pressure is natural for players and he wants his students to get used to it. The pressure on the coaching staff and players of the Vietnam team starts right from the start of the job. The goal of the Vietnam team is not only to win but also to try to create pressure to perfect the players, victory must come in the way he wants.
Mr. Troussier assessed that the pitch played an important role in this match. If the Vietnamese team had difficulty, the Philippines would also have difficulty. The players' feelings for playing football were different, but the coaching staff reminded each person to handle the ball as best as possible.
Regarding the match result, Mr. Troussier said: " It is natural and normal for football to have wins and losses. This happens every weekend in V.league or any tournament in the world. The important thing is that we try our best to ensure the result as well as the final performance ."
The match between Vietnam and the Philippines will take place at 6:00 p.m. on November 16.
