The first half saw a fairly even match between the two teams. In the 9th minute, after a combination on the right flank between Dinh Thanh Binh and Vu Van Thanh, Van Thanh fell when entering the penalty area and the referee immediately pointed to the penalty spot. However, advice from the VAR round forced the referee to go to the sideline to review the slow-motion replay. The referee believed that the impact of the Philippine defender on Van Thanh was not enough to lead to a penalty.
In the 26th minute, Dinh Thanh Binh showed good pressing ability to overcome the opponent's player and shoot diagonally, but the Philippine goalkeeper flew to make an excellent save.
Gayoso scored the opening goal of the match
On the other side, the Philippines team also threatened the Vietnamese goal. In the 36th minute, Reyes had a shot that left Nguyen Filip rooted to the spot, but fortunately the ball went wide of the post. The first 45 minutes of play ended without any goals being scored.
In the second half, coach Kim Sang-sik brought Nguyen Hoang Duc to take charge of the midfield instead of Quang Hai. The Vietnamese team started to push up the formation to look for a goal. In the 61st minute, the Vietnamese team almost opened the score. From a chaotic situation in the penalty area, the ball was returned to the second line for Vu Van Thanh to shoot very hard but unfortunately the ball hit the crossbar.
In the 68th minute, after a quick attack, Gayoso turned around and fired a decisive shot that left Nguyen Filip standing and watching, putting the Philippines team ahead 1-0.
In the 90+7 minute, the Vietnamese team scored an equalizer that made the fans burst into tears. After a corner kick on the right wing, the Philippine goalkeeper made a mistake, Doan Ngoc Tan appeared at the second post to head the ball in, bringing the match back to the starting line. 1-1 was also the final score of the match.
