National Youth Road Cycling Championship kicks off

On August 5, in Vinh Long, the National Bicycle - Motor Sports Federation coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long to organize the 29th National Youth Road Cycling Championship - 2024.

More than 200 athletes compete at the 29th National Youth Road Cycling Championship in Vinh Long

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Phan Van Giau, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long, said that the national youth road cycling championship is part of the national high-performance sports competition system; every year the tournament is hosted by the National Cycling and Motor Sports Federation in coordination with localities.

The tournament aims to impact the development of the national cycling movement in general, and the Mekong Delta region in particular. Through the competition, the athletes' training level will be tested and evaluated, and excellent young athletes will be discovered to supplement the national cycling team to participate in international competitions and achieve good results.

Athletes compete after the opening ceremony

The 29th National Youth Road Cycling Championship took place from August 5 to 11, on Vo Van Kiet Street (Ward 9, Vinh Long City) and the inner city of Vinh Long, with the participation of more than 200 athletes from 14 teams including: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, An Giang, Binh Duong, Can Tho, Dong Thap, Dong Nai, Lao Cai, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Son La, Military, Vinh Phuc and Vinh Long. The competition program has 8 events for 3 age groups: 16 and under; 17 to 18 years old and under 23 years old.

On the journey to participate in the road cycling championship today, the athletes had the opportunity to visit historical and cultural relics and famous people of the southern region such as: Memorial site of the late Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Hung, Memorial site of the late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet, Memorial site of Major General Tran Dai Nghia... in Vinh Long province.
