When to do military service 2024?

According to the provisions of the Law on Military Service 2015, enlistment (or military service) is when citizens enter to serve for a limited period in the regular forces of the People's Army and the Coast Guard.

According to Article 33 of the 2015 Law on Military Service, citizens are called to join the army once a year in February or March; in case of necessity for national defense and security reasons, citizens can be called to join the army a second time.

For localities with disasters or dangerous epidemics, the time for military service can be adjusted.

Thus, based on the above regulations, it can be determined that the time to call citizens for military service in 2024 will take place around February 2024 or March 2024.

Military service age 2024

Pursuant to Article 30 of the Law on Military Service 2015, citizens who are 18 years old or older are eligible for military service; the military service age ranges from 18 to 25 years old; citizens who have received college or university degrees and have had their military service deferred are eligible for military service until 27 years old.

Citizens are called up for military service when they meet the following criteria:

- Clear background;

- Strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's policies and laws;

- Be healthy enough to serve in the military according to regulations;

- Have appropriate cultural level.

How many years of military service in 2024?

Pursuant to Article 21 of the Law on Military Service 2015, the term of service in peacetime for non-commissioned officers and soldiers is 24 months.

The Minister of National Defense may decide to extend the term of active service of non-commissioned officers and soldiers, but not more than 06 months, in the following cases:

- To ensure combat readiness;

- Performing tasks of preventing and fighting natural disasters, epidemics, and rescue.

The term of service of non-commissioned officers and soldiers in a state of war or a state of national defense emergency is carried out according to the general mobilization order or local mobilization order.

The service time of non-commissioned officers and soldiers is calculated from the date of military transfer or receipt; in case of not being transferred or received at a centralized military camp, it is calculated from the date the People's Army unit receives it until the competent authority decides to discharge them.

Time of desertion and time serving prison sentences in prison are not counted as time of active service.

Authority to decide on calling citizens for military service in 2024

- The Prime Minister decides on the time and number of citizens called up for military service in provinces and centrally run cities (provincial level); decides on the second call up of citizens; decides on the adjustment of the number and time of call up of citizens for military service in provinces according to the provisions of Article 33 of the Law on Military Service 2015.

- Based on the decision of the Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defense decides the number of citizens to be called up for military service for units under his authority in each provincial-level locality.

- The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee decides to assign the number of citizens to enlist in the army to the district-level locality.

- The commander of a provincial or district-level military agency is responsible for advising the Chairman of the People's Committee at the same level in assigning the number of citizens to enlist for military service to the district or commune-level localities; and directing the selection of citizens to enlist.

- The Chairman of the District People's Committee decides to assign the number of citizens called up for military service to the commune-level locality; decides on the list of citizens called up for military service upon the proposal of the Military Service Council at the same level.

- The Commander of the District Military Command issues an order to call each citizen to military service. The call-up order must be delivered to the citizen 15 days before the time stated in the order.
