“In 2008, while competing in badminton at the Phu Dong Provincial Sports Festival, I met Mr. Le Nho Thanh, the volleyball coach of Military Region 5 who came to Quang Tri to recruit soldiers. After just one meeting and conversation, recognizing my many qualities and desire to enter a professional training environment, he decided to call me to the youth volleyball team of Military Region 5. Overcoming many initial confusions, I am now fortunate to have followed the call of my passion for volleyball for 16 years,” Tuan Anh recounted.

After the initial awkward days, the boy from Quang Tri made an effort to integrate into the learning and living environment of the Military Region 5 youth volleyball team. He shared: “The environment of the Military Region 5 youth volleyball team at that time had a very high elimination rate. Therefore, when I joined the team, I clearly determined that I had to always try hard, practice seriously to prove my ability and stay steadfast with my passion.”

With his efforts and progressive spirit in studying and training, Tuan Anh has gradually matured and started participating in the youth volleyball tournaments of the military in the uniform of the youth volleyball team of Military Region 5. With an ideal height with a blocking range of 3.15 m and a hitting range of 3.30 m, Tuan Anh plays well in two positions: opposite setter and main attacker with highly effective attacks.

In 2009, he was called up to the national youth volleyball team, and in 2012, he was officially called up to the national U19 volleyball team. Also in 2012, Tuan Anh was named in the list of the Vietnam national volleyball team. Regardless of which team he is on, he always shows stable performance and enthusiastic playing spirit, dedicating himself to beautiful plays.

In 2013, Bui Cong Tuan Anh and The Cong team won the runner-up prize at the National Volleyball Championship. For many consecutive years after that, he played for volleyball clubs such as: Military Zone 5, Sanest Khanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Long An... and together with his teammates achieved high results at the national volleyball championship. From a player in a military uniform, Tuan Anh began to have new successes, affirming his name, quickly rising to become an indispensable factor of many leading volleyball clubs nationwide.

Striving for many big goals

“2021 was a year of many regrets for me when both the National A-Class Volleyball Tournament and the National Volleyball Championship, my teammates and I finished second. Also in 2021, I suffered a serious knee injury and was at risk of having to retire from competition. However, with the determination to change the color of the medal as well as setting bigger goals for my career, I tried to recover as quickly as possible to participate in the National A-Class Volleyball Tournament in 2022,” Tuan Anh shared.

With strong efforts and never giving up, the player from Quang Tri showed his bravery in competition and together with his teammates of the Da Nang City men's volleyball team won the championship at the 2022 National A-Class Volleyball Tournament.

Last August, provincial volleyball fans were able to watch Tuan Anh compete in person for the Vinh Linh district volleyball team at the 2024 Quang Tri Provincial Volleyball Championship. He shared that this was the first time he had returned to serve and contribute to the audience in the province and compete in his hometown of Vinh Linh.

In this tournament, Tuan Anh played his best and together with his teammates won the championship cup. For him, this is not only a tournament but also a beautiful memory in his career. The championship at the Quang Tri Provincial Volleyball Championship 2024 is like this player's gratitude to all the people, fans in the province and his family who have always supported and followed him on the path of playing top-level volleyball for many years.

“In my career, I have worn the jerseys of many leading volleyball clubs across the country. However, the Vinh Linh district volleyball team jersey makes me very proud and happy. I am grateful to the authorities and sectors for creating conditions for professional athletes like me to compete in my homeland. Hopefully, in the coming years, Quang Tri province will have more large-scale and quality tournaments to serve the audience,” Tuan Anh said.

Currently, he is playing as a striker for the Da Nang City men's volleyball team. Tuan Anh's next goal in the near future is to continue to contribute to the Da Nang City men's volleyball team, aiming for new successes.

Regarding his long-term goals, he said he will pursue the path of becoming a professional volleyball coach. In addition, he hopes that in the near future he will have enough conditions to create a playground or organize a volleyball tournament for children in his hometown Vinh Linh. Through that, this player wants to pass on his enthusiasm and passion to the younger generation.
