Many consecutive years absent from the list of People's Artist titles
Based on his contributions to the screen and the level of love from the audience, many people could not believe that for many consecutive years Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy was not awarded the title of People's Artist.
Many people are surprised because Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy has not been considered for the title of People's Artist for many years.
"I have watched Thanh Quy perform since the 1980s, and I still think she has been a People's Artist for a long time. People of the same generation as Thanh Quy, such as Bui Bai Binh, Minh Chau, Phuong Thanh... have all been People's Artists. Thanh Quy's talent and contributions are not inferior to those of her colleagues, the fact that she has not been a People's Artist is a big question for the audience," teacher Phuong Ha shared.
"Even just considering TV roles, there is no role that Thanh Quy doesn't act like she's possessed. Some people even suggested 'please don't act like that' because her roles all bring too many tears to the audience. It's a pity that such an artist failed to become a People's Artist," commented audience member Nguyen Le Tuyet Mai.
"Thanh Quy is the People's Artist in my heart, whether people give her the title or not" , commented audience member Dat Nguyen.
Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy in his youth.
Born in 1958, right from her debut role (as Van) in the film Chuyen xe bao tap (director Tran Vu), the name Thanh Quy became a highlight of the big screen, her acting ability was recognized with the Golden Lotus award for leading actress at the 4th Vietnam Film Festival held in 1977.
Entering the profession at the age of 18, at the age of 27 she received her second Golden Lotus Award for Best Actress at the 7th Vietnam Film Festival held in 1985 for her role as Ngan Ha in the film Love and Distance directed by Duc Hoan.
After that, Thanh Quy continuously shone on the big screen, she was invited to be the female lead in a series of classic films such as The Hunted Woman, Those Who Met, No Horizon, Love Story by the River, Love Story in the Narrow Alley...
In every film, she leaves her mark on her characters, giving them flesh and soul, anchoring them forever in the memories of movie lovers.
Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy has many contributions to the country's cinema and television.
With these contributions, she is one of the few actresses to be awarded the title of Meritorious Artist at a very young age.
After retiring from Vietnam Feature Film Studio, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy continued to contribute to the television industry and had many impressive roles on the small screen.
From the role of Phan Quan's wife in the movie Nguoi phan xu, to the role of the venomous mother-in-law in Hoa hong tren thot lat or Mrs. Nga in Thuong ngay nang ve , to Mrs. Tinh in Cuoc doi van dep sao, Thanh Quy always proves her rare acting talent.
Every time a movie finishes filming, when she goes out, the audience doesn't call her Thanh Quy, instead they call the names of the characters she plays like Fat Lady Nga, Phan Quan's wife...
Commenting on Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy, Advisor Vu Dinh Than - co-star and close friend of the artist - affirmed: "Thanh Quy is a very talented and versatile actor, able to play many types of roles. We study cinema so authenticity and simplicity in acting are the top factors. Quy is a typical example of this. The sophistication and restraint in her acting brings emotions to the audience."
Since her retirement, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy has not acted in movies, and has not had the opportunity to participate in art festivals and performances to win medals. This is the reason why she was not proposed for the title of People's Artist in the field of cinema (especially in the context that the Vietnam Feature Film Studio has almost ceased to operate after the socialization event).
Many roles that took the screen by storm
Mrs. Tinh in "Life is still beautiful".
In the television field, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy also has no luck with awards. To be more precise, she prefers to “avoid” awards to give opportunities to younger actors.
In 2022, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy with the role of Mrs. Nga in the movie Thuong ngay nang ve was in the top 5 nominations for Impressive Actress of VTV Awards, but the actress withdrew to give the spotlight to young actors.
This year, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy continues to have the role of Mrs. Tinh, which has taken the screen by storm in the movie "Life is Still Beautiful", but in the end, the actress chosen to be nominated for the VTV Awards is Thanh Huong (as Luyen).
When asked why he repeatedly refused nominations and awards despite being deserving, Meritorious Artist Thanh Quy shared: “Now, having a good role to play is happiness for me. I am getting old, I need to step back so that young people can express themselves. They are very talented and they deserve it.”
The actress repeatedly refused to accept awards because she wanted to give opportunities to the younger generation.
Another reason, still subjective: Thanh Quy said that she had no intention of submitting a proposal for the title of People's Artist, because for her, at this age, being able to work is already a great happiness.
Up to this point, Thanh Quy is not the only case that because of "fear" of administrative procedures, has not applied for the title. Many older artists, without the help of relatives, students..., find it very difficult to complete a set of documents that meet the standards to submit to the receiving units.
After all, when the audience still secretly felt sorry for Thanh Quy, she just smiled and said that having a role was fun, and when she had free time, she would gather with friends to trade and chat, or go on trips. Every day when she wasn't performing, she would stay home without makeup, without wearing nice clothes, and be so comfortable that she became sloppy.
After two failed marriages, Thanh Quy has no intention of remarrying and is content with a life as a single mother and child.
“Maybe I am not suited to family life, and cannot bear to be tied down to anyone. I am alone but I do not feel lonely, nor am I afraid of being alone in old age because I do not have a son. Every day that passes, I still feel the joy of life, and being able to laugh is happiness.”
