In order to recreate the life, community activities and culture of ancient Vietnamese people, Ninh Binh province has restored a model of prehistoric cultural space on Khe Coc island. This brand new tourist attraction is officially open to visitors from early 2024. Mr. Bui Van Manh, Director of Ninh Binh Department of Tourism, said that the reconstruction of the living space of prehistoric people in Trang An World Heritage Site, Ninh Binh Province, hopes to provide full and vivid real-life perspectives on the lives of ancient Vietnamese people, or ancient Trang An residents in the past. "The living space of ancient Trang An residents is reconstructed based on archaeological sites excavated in Trang An Heritage Site. These are evidences of people living and developing in Trang An thousands of years ago," Mr. Manh shared.
Recreating the place where ancient Vietnamese people lived thousands of years ago not only creates a highlight for tourists when visiting the Trang An world heritage site but also preserves and passes on the heritage to future generations, spreading pride in the nation's origins. The patriarch's houses, people's houses, working tools, community activities... are restored almost exactly to the original, based on archaeological research by Vietnamese and international scientists. Foreign and Vietnamese tourists enjoy taking photos in the space recreating the life of ancient Vietnamese people. Coming to Khe Coc, visitors can immerse themselves in the living space of ancient residents. Understand more about hunting, gathering, using fire to cook food... Besides, they can listen to interesting historical stories about the ancient land of Trang An. That is from the time when humans appeared, living in high caves down to low caves, to the time when they left the caves to build thatched houses to survive. At Khe Coc Island Cultural Space, inside the Tribal Chief’s huts, there are artifacts related to the life of ancient residents that have been restored. In addition, dozens of huts where ancient residents lived also display household items serving their daily lives.
Not only admiring the artifacts, visitors can also witness actors playing ancient residents, performing traditional musical instruments from ancient times with dances imbued with national identity. The re-enactment of the cultural space of Khe Coc Island is an activity in a series of events towards the 10th anniversary of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex being recognized by UNESCO as a "dual heritage". This place is also a place to promote the image, outstanding global values of landscape, geology, geomorphology and culture of the unique heritage in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
