Opening of 17 bus routes connecting to metro line 1

(NLDO)- 17 bus routes with 150 vehicles, fares of 5,000 - 6,000 VND/trip, will connect passengers to the stations of metro line 1.

On the morning of December 20, the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center and Phuong Trang Passenger Transport Joint Stock Company - FUTA Bus Lines organized the opening ceremony of 17 bus routes connecting metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien).

17 bus routes with 150 newly invested vehicles, running on electricity, with a capacity of 30 to 60 seats will officially come into operation from December 22, along with metro line 1. These 17 bus routes are subsidized by the state.

The routes operate from 5am to 10pm daily, following the timetable of Metro Line 1; the interval between trips is 8-20 minutes. The fare is 5,000 - 6,000 VND per trip for regular passengers and 3,000 VND for students; a set of 30 tickets costs 112,500 VND.

The elderly, disabled, children... are exempted from fees according to the city's policy. Passengers using these 17 bus routes will be exempted from 30-day tickets, in sync with metro line 1.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Da Thao, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center, said that the buses of these 17 routes have their own unique identities, which are easily recognizable by the people, such as the electric buses have the main colors of blue and yellow; the exterior colors of the buses are stylized into wavy lines. The sunflower motif, a typical symbol of Thu Duc city, is decorated on both sides of the buses and has the words "Electric Bus" for easy identification.

These 17 bus routes will operate on December 22.

Mr. Dao Viet Anh, General Director of FUTA Bus Lines Company, said that the operation of 17 pure electric bus routes will provide people traveling within the city with more options for high-quality transportation services. This will also contribute to reducing emissions and noise pollution in the transportation sector, improving the urban atmosphere, and at the same time building a civilized urban image, in line with the world trend in the field of public transportation.

Present at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Quang Lam - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, commented that the launch of 17 bus routes connecting to metro line 1 aims to facilitate people to participate in public passenger transport.

"Since 2019, Ho Chi Minh City has been the first place to propose putting electric buses into operation. The city is also the first place to put the ticket card system into operation and build open card criteria (any card can be used). In addition to metro line 1, bus passengers will soon use the same payment method as the metro. That shows that the city has prepared very early, very far in order to create all conditions to encourage people to use public transport" - Mr. Lam said.
