(NLDO) - Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line No. 1 reduces speed during heavy rain to avoid sudden stops and ensure safety.
Metro Line 1 Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien will be adjusted to a slower speed during heavy rain to limit sudden stops, ensuring passenger safety while waiting for the technical error to be completely fixed.
Passengers use Mastercard to take the metro
Mr. Tran Dang Thanh, Deputy Director of Metro Line 1 Operation Company (HURC1), said that the unit has adjusted operating parameters, reducing train speed when encountering heavy rain. This measure was applied on February 11 at the Tan Cang - Ba Son section and will continue to be implemented until the system is fully updated.
"The train speed will be reduced, travel time may be longer, but passenger safety is still the top priority. Once the technical error is resolved, normal speed will be restored," Mr. Thanh emphasized.
Mr. Phan Cong Bang, Head of the HCM City Urban Railway Project Management Board, said that the metro train had to stop its journey twice due to heavy rain. One time was due to the lack of experience of the operating team in the early stages of operation, the other time was due to the train being struck by lightning, forcing it to stop to ensure safety and fix the problem.
According to Mr. Bang, Metro No. 1 system was designed according to Japanese standards, but when put into operation in Ho Chi Minh City, some signal errors arose due to special climate conditions. In particular, the platform barrier door system has sensitive sensors that can automatically close when impacted by external factors, affecting the operating process.
"It is expected that by the end of March, all errors related to the barrier gate signal system will be fixed. The ticket card system will be completed in May," Mr. Bang informed.
Regarding the automatic fare collection system at the stations, Mr. Tran Dang Thanh said it is expected to be completed in May. During this time, the cashless payment system via Mastercard has been deployed, making it more convenient for passengers. To date, more than 4 million passengers have used it, with total revenue from the system reaching more than 19 billion VND.
To meet the needs of passengers at Ben Thanh station, HURC1 will arrange additional ticket gates. If the number of passengers is still overloaded, the company will deploy additional handheld ticket vending machines to support.
