Opening of the "Peaceful Destination" cycling race in Quang Tri

(NADS) - On the morning of June 30, at Quang Tri Citadel, the land that experienced 81 "fiery" days and nights to protect the Citadel in 1972, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and Thanh Nien Newspaper held the opening ceremony of the "Peaceful Destination" cycling race. Not only celebrating the increasingly strong development of cycling in Quang Tri and the whole country, this event also honors the value of peace.

Overview of the opening ceremony

The race brings together 391 athletes from 60 cycling clubs from provinces and industries nationwide. In particular, there are 4 cycling clubs from Pakse, Savannakhet (Lao People's Democratic Republic) and Mukdahan province (Kingdom of Thailand). This will create fierce, attractive and dramatic races from racing teams and athletes, promising to bring many interesting surprises to fans.

The organizing committee and representatives of the competing delegations visited the heroic martyrs at Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Cycling Festival for Peace, said that the "Peaceful Destination" cycling race is an activity of the Cycling Festival for Peace in the series of Festivals for Peace in 2024; this is a cultural, sports and tourism event of national and international scale. In particular, this race has gone beyond the limits of a sports competition, carrying a message of peace, spreading and honoring the value of peace, calling on everyone to fight together to preserve and build a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable life. At the same time, it pays tribute to and commemorates the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, as well as commemorates the victims of war and the painful losses for peace. Mr. Tuan also said that the cycling race is also an opportunity to meet, share love and support peace, as well as strengthen and continue to build friendly relations and friendship between the athletes.

Before the official competition took place, a street parade was held with the theme "Cycling for peace, for a green - clean - beautiful environment" with the participation of 500 primary and secondary school students of Quang Tri town, going around the Citadel, a distance of 2.5km... with the background music from the songs: "This Earth is ours"
