Network operators, data center operators, and service providers are facing an upsurge in cyberattacks, including DDoS attacks, which have increased by 40% in the past six months. The scope and scale of these DDoS attacks are also increasing, as demonstrated by the recent Rapid Reset attack, which hit a record 398 million requests per second.
Fortinet developed the FortiGate 4800F NGFW, equipped with 16 NP7 network processors, to help carriers, data center operators, and service providers protect their critical network infrastructure and services against hyperscale DDoS attacks and other cybersecurity threats, while maintaining the ability to handle multiple terabits of legitimate customer traffic as 400GE technology becomes more widely adopted.
Faced with the need for a robust network application and security testing solution that could validate the performance of the FortiGate 4800F NGFW to meet operator requirements and security capabilities before deploying it into a customer's live network, Fortinet chose to use Keysight's APS-M8400 solution.
Additionally, the APS-M8400 platform also generated 3 Tbps of valid and malicious traffic in a single test, validating the FortiGate 4800F firewall's super-strong protection capabilities, successfully defending against an 800 Gbps Layer 2-3 DDoS attack while still maintaining the ability to deliver 2.2 Tbps of valid Layer 4-7 traffic without affecting CPU performance, memory usage, or system responsiveness.
