Speaking on June 6 during a visit to the Northern Command of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated: “I hear our opponents boasting about the weapons they are developing. For such developments, we will have an even stronger response from the air, sea and land, along with many other offensive and defensive means.”
In response to public concerns about the possibility of a Hezbollah attack, the head of the Israeli Defense Ministry also affirmed: “Our army is excellent… We will know how to protect the Israeli people by delivering a decisive blow to our enemies.”
Recently, Israeli public opinion has expressed concern that Hezbollah will pose a greater threat to the security of the Jewish State. In early April, Palestinian armed groups operating in Hezbollah-controlled areas in Lebanon fired several rockets into northern Israel.
Earlier in May, Hezbollah also invited international reporters to witness a military exercise with many new weapons, many of which hinted at attacks on Israel.
In related news, responding to the Jerusalem Post (Israel) on the same day, Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Gilad Erdan criticized the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) operating in the area. According to him, this agency has "distorted the truth" and only received data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, but "ignored...all the terrorist attacks we reported".
“We cannot continue to cooperate with OCHA when they provide the members of the UN Security Council with such a distorted truth. They portray a reality that is different from what exists,” the Israeli diplomat said.
Ambassador Erdan even proposed to the Israeli government to stop issuing visas to new UN staff assigned to the country. Finally, the official did not forget to warn: “Israel will have to cut off some relations and cooperation with UN agencies.”
