Recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo gave a not-so-optimistic prediction about the price of the foldable iPhone, with estimates ranging from $2,000 to $2,500. For comparison, Samsung's latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, costs around $1,900.
Foldable iPhone will not cost less than 50 million VND?
Kuo said the reason for the high price is that Apple needs to maintain its premium brand image. He said that in order to maintain its position in the market, Apple will have to price its products higher than its competitors, provided that their hardware quality is attractive enough. Despite the high price, Kuo believes that demand for the foldable iPhone will still be very high.
Why the foldable iPhone is so expensive
There are a few factors that could force Apple to price its foldable iPhone higher. First, Apple is aiming for a crease-free design for its foldable phone, a challenge that no other manufacturer has yet accomplished, even Oppo has only come close to achieving with the Find N5. Additionally, Apple is expected to use a titanium alloy for the frame and may use a stainless steel-titanium composite material for some internal components, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro.
Apple's foldable smartphone will also have a slim design, measuring just 4.5 to 4.8 mm thick when unfolded, similar to the Honor Magic V3 and Oppo's latest foldable models. In terms of battery technology, Apple may adopt the same high-density technology as the rumored iPhone 17 Air.
According to Kuo, the foldable iPhone will have a book-like design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, with a 7.8-inch inner screen without a crease and a 5.5-inch outer screen. However, due to design space constraints, Apple will have to abandon Face ID and return to using Touch ID, integrated into the side power button.
Launching the foldable iPhone later than its competitors may help Apple perfect the product in the best way. However, the 'huge' price may be a big barrier for many users.
Mr. Kuo said that the final specifications will be decided in the second quarter of 2025, and mass production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. According to predictions, Apple's foldable iPhone will likely be officially launched in the second half of 2027.
