According to a report from Korean news site ETNews, the entire iPhone 17 lineup, including the rumored ultra-thin iPhone Air, will likely be upgraded to the M14 OLED panel supplied by Samsung.

This means that even the regular iPhone 17 will offer a display quality experience comparable to the iPhone 16 Pro. The biggest difference between the two product lines is probably only in the internal hardware configuration and camera system.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max duo are Apple's first generation of smartphones to use Samsung Display's high-performance M14 OLED screen panel.

The M designation indicates that Samsung Display is made exclusively for flagship lines, while 14 is the number of high-performance materials used to manufacture them.

Thanks to the change in blue pixel emitting technology, M14 can operate more efficiently and save energy compared to M12 material on iPhone 15.

Not only the panel, previously, some sources revealed that the basic iPhone 17 models in 2025 will be equipped with a 120 Hz refresh rate screen. Analyst Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) also predicted that all iPhone 17 models will have always-on mode thanks to ProMotion technology.

Digital Trends considers this a smart move by Apple. Screen technology and features like always-on are very noticeable and have great appeal to iPhone users. Limiting the Pro line on the iPhone 16 may make many users who want to upgrade to the regular iPhone 17 feel disadvantaged.
