"Axis" of the district

After officially merging Nong Son district into Que Son district from January 1, 2025, Que Son will have 3 towns: Dong Phu, Huong An and Trung Phuoc.

With 3 towns, Que Son is the locality that holds the record for the number of towns in the province when no district in Quang Nam has more than 1 town. In the entire South Central Coast region, only Phu Cat district (Binh Dinh) has 3 towns.

With 3 towns, the urban development process of Que Son will have many advantages when forming a street axis from east to west, instead of most of the hustle and bustle being concentrated in one town like other districts.

After the merger, Dong Phu is still the district capital of Que Son. Although not a district capital, the interesting thing is that both Huong An and Trung Phuoc possess unique advantages to create urban life.

Huong An town, only formed less than 20 years ago (2008), but in fact, before 1945, there was a market named Huong An associated with villages such as Huong Yen, Huong Lu, Huong Loc... More importantly, being located on the North-South highway (National Highway 1) as well as having two rivers Ly Ly and Ba Ren winding around it, makes this area an ideal model for "gathering" people according to the ancients' concept.

As for Trung Phuoc, although located deep in the midland and semi-mountainous region, this town still has its own unique appeal. In the middle of the valley surrounded by mountains on all sides, Trung Phuoc market was formed in the 18th century and helped Trung Phuoc become a bustling trading place on the wharf and on the boat.

Although Trung Phuoc's "age" as a town is only 2 years old (established in 2023), for hundreds of years now, in the street vendors' world, people who come and go or stay have all implicitly considered Trung Phuoc to be a bustling trading and residential area.

In fact, when recognized as a type V urban area in 2017, Trung Phuoc (then Que Trung commune) achieved a fairly high score of nearly 82 points (only 75 points were needed to qualify for recognition).

Find ways to improve urban quality

Despite its superiority in quantity, the local government has long recognized the problem of urban development, especially the weak infrastructure of Que Son compared to the general correlation of the Eastern localities in the province.

For example, the clean water needs of Que Son residents have not been basically met. Many residential groups such as Thuan An, Tam Hoa, My Dong, Cang Tay, Lanh Thuong 1, Lanh Thuong 2 (Dong Phu town), Huong Loc, Huong Yen, Huong An Dong, Dong Tram, Yen Lu (Huong An town) ... still often fall into a state of lack of clean water for daily use.

According to the leader of Que Son District People's Committee, the locality is planning to expand the boundaries of Huong An town to be worthy of being the economic, cultural and social center; the traffic hub, and economic exchange of the eastern communes of the district.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Chau - Vice Chairman of Que Son District People's Committee said: "The district will maintain the type V criteria and is planning to expand Huong An urban area to the west (towards Que My commune).

In the period of 2025 - 2030, the district will also focus on developing Dong Phu urban area to reach about 80% of the standards of a type IV urban area and at the same time increase the attraction of investment projects to improve the economic scale and urban infrastructure of the towns.

As for Trung Phuoc town, Que Son district has proposed that the province adjust the general urban planning of Trung Phuoc as well as adjust the overall urban planning of Trung Phuoc to suit the orientation of adjusting the urban nature, taking advantage of infrastructure resources, creating new development momentum for this urban area after the merger.

In general, due to the modest number of investment projects in Que Son towns, the rate of mechanical population growth here is also very low. Meanwhile, being located in the Eastern region, Que Son must make great efforts to keep up with the acceleration of the dynamic development region of Quang Nam according to the provincial planning. And in the new journey, the three towns of the district must be the "nucleus" to promote the local socio-economic development.
