(BGDT) - Agricultural extension work is being innovated with diverse and effective methods such as promoting the role of community agricultural extension teams; aiming at multi-value integrated models, focusing on transferring technical advances while reorganizing production, increasing product value, and expanding markets.
Reorganize production
Recently, agricultural extension models have been organized with many innovations, gradually moving towards multi-value. Agricultural extension officers not only help people grasp new and effective technical advances but also propagate and guide farmers to reorganize production in the form of linking cooperatives and cooperatives, contributing to expanding raw material areas, increasing product value, and meeting market demands.

The model of planting non-timber forest products and linking the consumption of yellow camellia products in Truong Son commune (Luc Nam) is an example. Previously, some households in Truong Son commune planted yellow camellia but the area was fragmented, not linked, and they did not fully understand the techniques. Meanwhile, developing non-timber forest products (yellow camellia, ginseng, purple khôi, morinda officinalis...) is one of the directions for sustainable exploitation of forest resources, contributing to increasing people's income and is also an effective solution to adapt to climate change. Therefore, in July 2022, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center instructed 12 households in Truong Son commune to plant yellow camellia under the chestnut canopy on a scale of 6 hectares. Households were supported with seedlings and 70% of basal fertilizer.
The family of Mr. Nguyen Ba Dung, Diem Ren village, Truong Son commune is one of the participating households. The family planted about 500 trees by cutting method. Up to now, the trees are nearly 1 year old, with a survival rate of 95%, 80 to 100 cm high, growing and developing well.
Mr. Dung said: “We were instructed on tree care techniques by the staff of the Agricultural Extension Center, and invited local farmers with experience in growing this type of tree to come to the garden to discuss and share cultivation techniques, so we have grasped each stage”. In particular, the Agricultural Extension Center has connected and helped households participating in the model sign a contract to link product consumption with Bao Minh Science, Technology and Trade Services Company Limited (Hanoi). In the coming years, product output is guaranteed, so people can rest assured in production”.
In the last spring crop, 320 households in My Thai commune and Kep town (Lang Giang) were very excited because the rice yield reached more than 67 quintals/ha, 2 quintals/ha higher than the previous crop. This is the "sweet fruit" of the model of linking the production of high-quality J02 rice in an organic direction, with a scale of 39 hectares in the above-mentioned areas.
During the implementation process, agricultural extension officers regularly follow the fields, organize field conferences and organize product consumption links. When the rice is harvested, officers of the Vietnam High-Tech Agricultural Materials and Seeds Joint Stock Company go to the fields to consume the products, the price of fresh rice fluctuates from 6-8 thousand VND/kg.
In addition, models of applying drones in preventing pests and diseases in rice and lychee; applying high technology in fish farming; raising domestic bees according to VietGAP to improve the value chain, adapt to climate change... also contribute to increasing the value of agricultural products; forming concentrated raw material areas. In 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center will continue to replicate the above models in many other areas.
Change habits and farming methods
Multi-value agricultural extension models in Bac Giang are gradually showing their effectiveness. Mr. Dao Xuan Vinh, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, informed: Not only the agricultural extension force is doing agricultural extension, but scientists, enterprises, cooperatives, and mass organizations are also actively participating in propagating policies, good economic models, transferring techniques, linking value chains... for farmers.
In addition, experienced and knowledgeable farmers also play a core role at the grassroots level in organic agricultural production, OCOP products; integrating agriculture with tourism; innovating preliminary processing, processing, and preservation activities; and digital transformation in consumption.

To continue to expand, propaganda work, raising awareness, changing habits and farming methods for people must be carried out first, and the core of this work is the members of the community agricultural extension team. It is known that in 2022, the National Agricultural Extension Center will pilot the Project to improve the effectiveness of agricultural extension activities through the consolidation of the community agricultural extension team.
Bac Giang province is not on the list of pilot implementation but has also deployed and developed mechanisms and policies for the operation of the group.
