This is a highlight event in a series of activities to celebrate the opening of AEON MALL Hue - the 7th AEON MALL in Vietnam.
More than 500 guests, including representatives from Thua Thien Hue provincial government, the Consulate General of Japan in Da Nang, local residents and employees from AEONMALL Vietnam Co., Ltd. and member companies of AEON Group joined hands to plant the first trees at AEON MALL Hue.
“Forests” for local communities
This event is part of AEON Group's continuous efforts in Thua Thien Hue, contributing to AEON's previous tree planting programs from 2010 and 2012 with a total of 72,000 trees on 34 hectares of forest in Lang Co.
Following the ceremony, more than 5,000 native seedlings from 8 different species were planted, including: honeysuckle, peony, jasmine, apricot blossom, gardenia, hibiscus, laurel, and yellow apricot. By selecting and planting native species, AEON aims to nurture and grow “forests” for local communities.
With the message “Nurturing green roofs, cultivating healthy living rhythms”, AEON hopes that each tree planted will inspire the community to build and cultivate green living spaces, sustainable development, in line with the goal of Hue City in becoming a sustainable and livable city.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Mori Takero - Consul General of Japan in Da Nang shared: "The 5,000 trees planted this time not only contribute to greening the area, but also symbolize the prosperity of Central Vietnam and will become a symbol of friendship between Japan and Vietnam".
Green friendship project
Mr. Isobe Daisuke - Director in charge of overseas markets, AEON MALL Joint Stock Company shared: “AEON's relationship with Vietnam began with the planting of forests and the construction of 30 primary schools of the AEON 1% Club fund in Thua Thien Hue province. In particular, we have planted 111,119 trees together, including about 2,000 cherry blossom trees, the symbol of Japan, which have bloomed in Hanoi. This tree planting event continues to be a meaningful activity to prepare for the official opening of AEON MALL Hue”.
Among the guests, 150 students and teachers from 5 schools built by the AEON 1% Club Fund in Hue City were also excited to participate and skillfully planted each tree. Ho Bao Vy (grade 5, An Hoa Primary School) shared: “I often help my grandparents take care of trees at home, but this is the first time I have participated in a tree planting event with the community. Today, I planted 3 trees with my friends, I will come back soon to visit the trees that I have planted.”
Mr. Nguyen Viet Bang - Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee affirmed: "The tree planting event to build a green environment connecting to the local community of AEONMALL Vietnam Co., Ltd. is an important event, demonstrating the accompanying role and responsibility of enterprises in the area towards the policy of environmental protection, building an increasingly green - clean - bright city of the leaders of Thua Thien Hue province. The City People's Committee highly appreciates the efforts and dedication of AEONMALL Vietnam towards the province and city in the field of environmental protection and urban landscape".
The highlight of the ceremony was the event where AEON MALL Hue officially received the Gold certification of the “LOTUS Green Building Criteria System” from the Vietnam Green Building Council (VGBC). AEON MALL Hue is the first shopping mall in Vietnam to achieve this prestigious certificate. This is a recognition and affirmation of AEON MALL’s commitment to environmental protection and efforts to improve the quality of life for the local community, in line with the principles of AEON Group.
