TPO - After 10 years, more than 30,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City have studied integrated math, science and English.
The number of students studying integrated English increased 50 times in 10 years.
The information was presented by Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training (GD&DT) of Ho Chi Minh City at the conference to review 10 years of implementing the project of teaching and learning Math, Science, and English integrating the English and Vietnamese programs (English>integrated English program).
The Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City informed that in the first year of implementation, only 600 students from 18 schools participated. By the 2023-2024 school year, that is, after 10 years, over 30,000 students had participated in the integrated English program, spread across 160 schools in 20 districts across Ho Chi Minh City.
"This shows that the need to learn English combined with scientific subjects is increasing," Mr. Quoc acknowledged.

Regarding the students' academic results, Mr. Quoc assessed that they always achieved high scores, especially in Math and Science. The percentage of students achieving excellent scores in the periodic and final exams in Math and Science in English is always 85-90%.
The project has helped many students achieve high results in international academic exams. The majority of students, upon completing the program at all levels, have achieved the corresponding level according to the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework of the Ministry of Education and Training, equivalent to the levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
Replicating the model
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong assessed that Project 5695 of Ho Chi Minh City showed the correct advice, determination to dare to think, dare to do, and dare to make breakthroughs of the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong suggested that Ho Chi Minh City continue to consider, from the experience of implementing Math and Science in English, to research and expand other subjects under possible conditions.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Lan, General Director of EMG Education - the unit coordinating the implementation of the integrated English program, said that the project achieved the above results because it ensured 4 key things.
In which, the "four-house" model including managers, schools, businesses and learners (parents) has shown outstanding effectiveness in integrating English into teaching core subjects such as math and science in English.

Along with that, the team of highly qualified teachers, building a practical English application environment, regularly improving technology in the teaching process such as 3D models, Virtual Experiments virtual labs, Metaverse platform classrooms, etc. help students access modern educational materials and technology.
Ms. Lan affirmed that this is the foundation for the project to create a sustainable educational model, suitable for Vietnam's conditions and meeting the trend of international integration. Students are not only good at knowledge but also confident in communicating and working in English, ready to compete fairly with international friends.
Thanks to parents for their support
According to Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, the success of the project is also thanks to the support of parents. When it was first implemented, the education sector had to be very persistent, persuasive and demonstrate the effectiveness of the program through training quality.
Ms. Thuy assessed that the number of students participating in the program is still small compared to the city's 1.7 million students. The Vietnamese teaching staff participates in a small part, most of whom are native teachers. From there, she affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to implement the project, requiring the education sector to research and expand, increase access opportunities, and increase the number of participating students.
