The Hanoi Department of Education and Training is drafting a plan to enroll students in the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including a third exam subject for grade 10, to submit to the City People's Committee.

Hanoi Department of Education and Training informed that 10th grade admission will be conducted by examination, including two subjects: literature and math; the third subject is expected to be announced at the end of February, immediately after being approved by the City People's Committee.

Hanoi previously planned to announce the third exam subject at the end of March. However, this changed after the Prime Minister's directive, requiring localities to announce their plans for middle and high school enrollment in February.

Up to this point, more than 40 provinces and cities have announced the third exam subject for grade 10. Most localities have chosen English. Ha Giang is the only province up to this point that has chosen history and geography as the third exam subject.

The Department of Education and Training of this province explained that due to a lack of teachers and many other objective reasons, English is not a subject that students are equally strong in, so if it is chosen as the third exam subject, it will cause difficulties for students in remote areas.

Localities that choose English, or foreign languages ​​in general, as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam all explain that it is to encourage students to learn foreign languages ​​and make them the second language in schools.

Most localities organize entrance exams or combine exams and exams to enroll students in grade 10. Gia Lai and Vinh Long only organize entrance exams for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that it is expected that in February, all provinces and cities will announce the third exam subject according to the direction of the Prime Minister.

2025 is the year the first batch of students following the 2018 general education program will graduate from junior high school and high school. According to the junior high school and high school admission regulations recently issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, localities can choose to take entrance exams, consider admissions, or combine them to enroll 10th graders.

With the entrance exam option, the exam includes math, literature and a third subject (or a combined exam), the third subject is chosen by the Department of Education and Training, but a subject cannot be chosen for more than three consecutive years.
