The event took place on the evening of March 28, organized by the Italian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, the Italian Trade Office in Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the VDAS Design Association. This is an annual event initiated by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation since 2017, taking place in many countries. This year's event in Vietnam creates a space for discussion on the role of design in reducing inequality, creating an inclusive environment, promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life.
Mr. Enrico Padula, Consul General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that Italian Design Day aims to honor the Italian design heritage and create opportunities to exchange ideas and promote international cooperation. Especially in Vietnam - a country that is developing strongly with a vibrant real estate market, the role of design is increasingly emphasized, the event promises to bring many practical values, contributing to promoting creativity and innovation.
Mr. Fabio De Cillis, Director of the Italian Trade Office in Ho Chi Minh City, said: “We are living in a world that is changing at a dizzying pace, and this does not necessarily bring positive benefits. When pursuing the goal of “growth at all costs”, we risk losing traditional values, the common values of the society we create, leading to inequality. Therefore, the urgent thing now is to find a solution to overcome this problem, to ensure a sustainable future for the community. Design will play an important role in building a fair society where everyone has access to opportunities”.

The highlight of the event was a panel discussion that brought together renowned architects from Italy and Vietnam, sharing many new and different perspectives, from urban planning to public spaces and community engagement. The panel discussion emphasized the role of design in contributing to eliminating inequality and improving the quality of life for all social classes.
Aiming at the connection between design and people, architects Bui Hoang Bao and Ta Vinh Phuc respectively delve into the role of public space - urban architecture in promoting social equity, to enhance the integration of the surrounding community, especially in developing cities.
