On the morning of July 30, the Ministry of Education and Training announced the official results of the Vietnamese national team participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO) 2024. Vietnamese students won 3 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal.
Gold Medal Achievements Go to:
Nguyen Huu Tien Hung, 12th grade student, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh province;
Giap Vu Son Ha, 12th grade student, Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, Bac Giang province;
Tran Dang Khoi, 12th grade student, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Hanoi city.
Silver Medal Award: Do Phu Quoc, 12th grade student, Le Thanh Tong High School for the Gifted, Quang Nam province.
The 56th International Chemistry Olympiad was held from July 21 to 30 with a total of 327 contestants from delegations from 89 countries and territories.
The exam consists of a theoretical exam and a practical exam, each exam is conducted within 5 hours. This year's practical exam is considered to have many new and topical points, requiring candidates to have the ability to think comprehensively and perform operating skills accurately. The theoretical exam deals with the applications of chemistry in industry, environmental pollution treatment, advanced materials, etc.
In the medal tally compared to other national teams, the Vietnamese team ranked second with the US team and only behind the Chinese team.
This year's achievements of the Vietnamese national team continue the impressive achievements at ICHO competitions in the past 5 years. With a total of 20 contestants from 2020-2024, the Vietnamese team excellently won 20/20 medals, including 17 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals, continuously in the top 3 leading countries in terms of the number of Gold Medals.
