On December 5, at the Fisheries Surveillance Training Center Region 5 (Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang), Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Phung Duc Tien received Mr. Marc E. Knapper, US Ambassador to Vietnam.
At the reception, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien highly appreciated the support of the United States and the attention of Ambassador Marc E. Knapper for the Vietnamese fisheries sector through programs, projects, and technical assistance in the field of aquatic resources conservation, especially support in capacity building for the Vietnamese Fisheries Surveillance force and prevention of IUU fishing.

US Ambassador Marc E. Knapper informed the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of a new $12.5 million assistance package for Vietnam. The aid package will be allocated to Vietnamese law enforcement agencies, part of which will support fisheries surveillance to purchase small boats, provide capacity building training, and develop training support models for maritime law enforcement and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
