Speaking at the event, Ms. Rebecca Taylor, Immigration and Migration Section, British Embassy in Hanoi emphasized that preventing illegal migration and human trafficking continues to be a top priority of the British Government.

"We are committed to working closely with the Government of Vietnam to prevent and combat human trafficking through capacity building, awareness raising, information sharing, criminal prosecution and protection of vulnerable people," Ms. Rebecca Taylor emphasized.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Tuyen Quang province, said that in order to prevent and repel crimes of human trafficking and illegal migration, it is necessary to promote communication activities, share information, and raise awareness among sectors, levels, socio-political organizations and people.

"We hope to continue to coordinate with the British Embassy in Hanoi and embassies of other countries, and non-governmental organizations in raising public awareness, especially among young people, students and pupils," said Mr. Hung.

Within the framework of the event, a contest to propagate the prevention of human trafficking and illegal migration took place with the participation of teams from 4 schools in Tuyen Quang province.

The contest aims to raise awareness among students - those who are easily exposed and affected by human trafficking crimes.

The United Nations has identified human trafficking as one of the four most dangerous crimes in the world and included it in its global crime prevention and control program since 2013, as well as choosing July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

On May 10, 2016, the Prime Minister issued a decision to designate July 30 of each year as National Day for Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking.

Since 2016, Steering Committee 138/CP has chaired activities to celebrate the National Day for Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking to promote the combined strength of the entire political system and the entire population to participate in preventing, stopping, and eventually repelling human trafficking crimes.

The theme of World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2024 is "No child left behind in the fight against trafficking in persons".
