Danang Museum - symbol of Danang history and culture

Speaking at the event, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Trung Chinh said: In 2020, the city decided to move the Da Nang Museum out of the special national relic of Dien Hai Citadel and use the headquarters of the Da Nang City People's Council at 42 and 44 Bach Dang Street (formerly the Governor's Palace built in the late 1890s) as the new Da Nang Museum.

"This is a decision of historical significance, marking a turning point in the journey of building, preserving and promoting cultural values ​​bearing the heritage mark of Da Nang in particular and Quang Nam in general; receiving the consensus and support of the city's government and people as well as cultural and historical researchers nationwide," Mr. Le Trung Chinh emphasized.

Determining the renovation and construction of the Da Nang Museum from a particularly important historical building, the city's functional agencies have conducted careful research to preserve the most complete form of the previous architecture; at the same time, the newly built areas are implemented in a modern architectural language, in harmony with the landscape, creating a unique and impressive architectural highlight on the banks of the Han River.

Within the framework of today's ceremony, Da Nang started construction of the Uncle Ho Statue at the Da Nang General Science Library. The project aims to honor the life and great revolutionary career of President Ho Chi Minh; responding to the sacred sentiments of the people of Da Nang and Da Nang city towards President Ho Chi Minh, the beloved leader of the nation.

Thereby, widely propagating, educating the tradition of studiousness, love of reading and fostering the spirit of learning and reading for the young generations of the city; contributing to the development of reading culture, creating a red address for people, domestic and foreign tourists when coming to Da Nang to admire and remember Uncle Ho.

The project to renovate and upgrade the blocks 42-44 Bach Dang and 31 Tran Phu to build the Da Nang Museum started in mid-2021, aiming to create infrastructure to receive and display artifacts of the Da Nang Museum. The project was approved by the Da Nang City People's Committee with a total investment of 504.9 billion VND.

Da Nang Museum is a cultural project invested with a system of scientific and aesthetic exhibitions and interpretations and modern facilities. Da Nang Museum - a symbol connecting the past and present, promises to become a red address, a unique architectural highlight, imbued with historical-cultural values ​​on the banks of the Han River.

The project to build a statue of Uncle Ho in the General Science Library, in Decision No. 2695/QD-UBND dated December 3, 2024, aims to honor and praise the life, career and studious spirit of Uncle Ho, expressing his sacred affection for the People and the People of Da Nang for him.

The project includes main items including renovating and embellishing the surrounding landscape and technical infrastructure; creating a friendly outdoor reading space; Arranging a statue of Uncle Ho in the middle of the campus, the statue is 2.7m high, 1.8m deep, 1.7m wide, made of gray-white marble;

The relief behind the statue of Uncle Ho is arranged from 5 panels with a total length of 15m and a height of 4.05m, depicting the image of Khue Van Cac in the middle and the image of Ngu Hanh Son - a special national monument of Da Nang city on both sides, made of gray granite.

Building 42 Bach Dang was formerly the Governor's Palace, Da Nang City Hall, built during the French colonial period, now 125 years old, designed by a French architect in the Neoclassical style, started in 1898 and inaugurated in 1900. Initially, this was the workplace of the Tourane Governors. In July 1945, it was the workplace of the Tourane Mayor appointed by the Tran Trong Kim Government. On August 26, 1945, it became the headquarters of the Thanh Thai Phien Provisional Revolutionary People's Committee. In early 1947, the French reoccupied Da Nang, and this place became the Tourane Governor's Palace again until France returned the Tourane concession to the National Government of Vietnam. Since then, the Tourane Governor's Palace officially became the Da Nang City Hall.

Not only is it symbolic, the City Hall is also a witness to the heroic historical moment of the army and people of Da Nang with the event on March 29, 1975, the flag of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam flew on the roof of the City Hall, marking the victory of the army and people of Da Nang in the resistance war against the US to save the country. Through many stages of construction and development, this building used to be the headquarters of the People's Committee of Quang Nam-Da Nang province, the People's Committee and the People's Council of Da Nang city.
