"I received information about Vietnamese-American player Thomas Mai Veeren through videos. I will watch him live during training to make comparisons and make the final decision for the team. Hopefully he will bring good things to the team.

When I received the video via Youtube, the coaching staff analyzed it together. But we will continue to observe and support him to integrate into the team. Whether Thomas Mai Veeren can help the team or not will require more time, " coach Cristiano Roland said during the afternoon training session of March 3 of the U17 Vietnam team.

Thomas Mai Veeren is a completely new face, the only one who does not train and play for Vietnamese clubs. Thomas Mai Veeren has another name, Mai Cong Thanh. This player lives in the Netherlands, and his mother is Vietnamese. The midfielder, born in 2008, is currently playing for the youth team of HV Quick, a team in the fourth division of the Netherlands. According to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Thomas Mai Veeren was once called up to the Dutch youth teams.

He is one of 34 U17 Vietnam players called up to prepare for the 2025 U17 Asian Cup finals. These are just Mai Cong Thanh's first training sessions and he must demonstrate his ability on the field to win the opportunity to participate in the tournament.

Talking about the team's goal, Coach Roland said: " Just like in the qualifying round, we try our best in every match. U17 Vietnam is actively preparing. The list of 34 players this time includes some players who are joining the national team for the first time. During the training period, I will shorten the list to select the most optimal force."

According to the Brazilian strategist, he decided to return to U17 Vietnam because of the invitation and trust from VFF. In recent days, Mr. Roland has been actively planning training sessions to improve his players' skills. The former midfielder hopes that the training trip in Oman will be effective but also needs to keep U17 Vietnam's information confidential.
