In the past, Vietnamese clubs have never won against Korean representatives in the ACL. Hanoi and Pohang also met in the final play-off round of the 2016 ACL with the Korean representative winning 3-0.
Pohang won the ACL in 1996-1997, 1997-1998, 2009 and was runner-up in 2021. In K-League 1 in 2022, Pohang finished third overall. Korean players have the best physique and fitness in Asia. In addition, Pohang has three quality Brazilian players: Oberdan, Zeca and Wanderson.
The most notable absentee is 22-year-old midfielder Goh Young-jun, who is with the Korean Olympic team at the 19th Asian Games in China. Coach Kim considers Goh to have excellent technique and is very important in the team's play. He hopes that other players will play well to fill the void left by their teammates.
Pohang and Urawa Red Diamonds are considered candidates for the two tickets to Group J in the ACL knockout round. Both have long-standing participation in the tournament, Urawa is the current champion of the tournament. However, Hanoi FC is making careful preparations to challenge the representatives of Japan and Korea. The capital team aims to become the first Vietnamese club to pass the ACL group stage.
