At 9:00 a.m. today (September 29), Brigade 249, the Engineer Corps began moving the pontoon sections to the predetermined location to install the pontoon bridge across the Red River. After being connected together, the pontoon sections will be moved and installed from the Lam Thao district bank to the Tam Nong district bank. To build the bridge, Brigade 249 used 26 offshore sections and 2 abutment sections. After nearly 2 hours of installation, the engineering force completed the pontoon bridge connection. It is expected that tomorrow (September 30), the pontoon bridge will be put into use to serve the travel needs of people after 20 days of the Phong Chau bridge incident. The temporary pontoon bridge replaces the collapsed Phong Chau bridge and will operate from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. Vehicles such as rudimentary vehicles, motorbikes, mopeds and three-wheeled motorbikes are allowed to travel in both directions at a maximum speed of no more than 5 km/h. For cars, only cars and pickup trucks (2-4 seats) are allowed to travel in one direction when crossing the bridge, each direction lasts 10 minutes, and the speed does not exceed 10km/h.
