Modernizing agricultural processing enterprises

In response to market demands and the development trend of the processing industry, Quang Ninh's agricultural processing facilities have recently recorded a significant shift in investment and application of advanced technology and equipment in production, moving towards sustainable and high-value agricultural commodity production.

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province has 694 facilities for preliminary processing and processing of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products, including 22 enterprises processing agricultural and aquatic products for export; 408 enterprises and cooperatives processing agricultural and aquatic products for domestic consumption; and 264 facilities processing forestry products.

Among the agricultural and aquatic product processing establishments in Quang Ninh, the number of enterprises processing agricultural products for export is assessed to invest the most in science and technology. After 3 years of production, F-ONE Global Foods Company (An Sinh Commune, Dong Trieu City) has a system of industrial fryers, freezers, cool rooms, mixers, dipping machines, shaping machines, quick freezers and the most advanced defect detectors today. The foreign object detector alone allows the Company to detect metal foreign objects and impurities, allowing for signaling and filtering of defective products right from the initial production stage.

Mr. Yang Jin Han, Technical Director of F-ONE Global Foods Company said: By applying modern machinery and processing equipment to production, F-ONE Global Foods Company's products meet all standards for export to domestic and foreign markets. Currently, over 50 types of agricultural products of the unit are being exported to the Korean and Japanese markets. In particular, F-ONE Global Foods' main products such as squid, chili, sweet potatoes, vegetables, fried sesame leaves; kimchi cakes, seafood cakes, chive cakes, potato cakes, pumpkin cakes... are selling very well.

Long Hai Company Limited (Kim Son Industrial Park, Dong Trieu City) has switched to producing all kinds of edible mushrooms. Operating since 2010, Long Hai has gradually innovated its technology from manual to automated technology and now to biotechnology. Laboratories, ultraviolet sterilization rooms, ozone generator rooms, mycelium cultivation rooms, germination rooms, restraint rooms, mushroom cultivation rooms... of Long Hai are all considered modern, able to control factors such as temperature, humidity, light and sterility... helping mushrooms grow cleanly and retain high micronutrient content. It is the advanced technology that has helped Long Hai's edible mushroom products gain a foothold in the market, consuming up to 600 tons of mushrooms each year, of which 4 types of enoki mushrooms, purple oysters, tea and chicken thighs are exclusive products under the brand name "Vietnamese Mushrooms" of Long Hai.

Along with Long Hai, F-ONE Global Foods, most of the agricultural, forestry and aquatic product processing facilities for export in Quang Ninh have been focusing on investing in equipment to control quality and food safety, such as automated conveyor systems, automatic weighing, automatic packaging, high-temperature steamers, IQF freezing systems (super-fast freezing), food safety and hygiene quality management systems (based on the principles of hazard analysis and critical control)... Currently, the design capacity of these enterprises is about 20,000 tons of raw materials/year, with products mainly exported to markets in China, Taiwan, Korea and Japan.

For medium and small-scale agricultural processing facilities, depending on the capacity of each unit, they have gradually shifted from manual to semi-automatic and to automatic. Phuong Thuy Production and Trading Company Limited (Bac Son Ward, Uong Bi City) started out as a household-scale cordyceps cultivation and processing facility. Up to now, the Company has spent tens of billions of VND to invest in sterile cold rooms, cooling, humidification, water collection, humidity collection, temperature increase and decrease systems and freeze-drying systems, allowing Phuong Thuy to cultivate and grow mushroom spawn in an artificial cold room environment while drying the products while still ensuring 99% of shape, color, taste and 100% of essence. From cordyceps raw materials, Phuong Thuy has processed nearly 20 types of refined products, most of which are in the OCOP product category, highly appreciated by the market and trusted by consumers.

Dang Phuong Production and Trading Company Limited (Tra Co Ward, Mong Cai City) specializes in producing traditional fish sauce. With many years of experience in the profession, the company is well aware of the need to switch from outdoor fermentation to fermentation in oak barrels, also known as barrel-house fish sauce production technology. In each such oak barrel, Dang Phuong contains up to 15 tons of anchovies and herring, going through the process of compressing, filtering and drying fish continuously for about 18-24 months to collect about 4,000 liters of finished fish sauce. Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Director of the Company, said: The beauty of barrel-house fish sauce production technology is that it maintains a stable temperature in both winter and summer, stimulating the microbial fermentation process and the chemical decomposition process, which is a prerequisite for producing a standard bottle of fish sauce with a fried color and traditional aroma.

It can be seen that, from its initiative, the agricultural processing enterprises of Quang Ninh are increasingly modern and growing. This is the basis for Quang Ninh agricultural products to improve in quality and value; Quang Ninh agricultural processing enterprises to increase revenue and profit, create jobs and income for workers, contribute to the state budget, and contribute to the overall development of the agricultural economy in the whole province.
