Simple but warm Tet

It has been more than 7 years since H'Hen Nie was crowned Miss Universe Vietnam 2017. Since the moment she was crowned, the life of the Ede girl has truly turned a new page. She has become a public figure, traveled to many places, experienced countless new things... Like many other adults who have to leave their hometown to start a career, H'Hen Nie has achieved success and is busy with work, so the time with her family will also be less. Therefore, the beauty queen born in 1992 said that she cherishes every second, every minute with her loved ones.

Ede beauty "craves" the simplest things of her homeland

Traditional Tet is the special occasion that H'Hen Nie looks forward to the most in the year, when she can return to the place where she was born and raised, especially to reunite with her parents, siblings and people in the village. Previously, Tet in H'Hen Nie's memory was the days when she and her friends had a day off from school, the shops were no longer open but her grandparents and parents were still in the fields. "When I was young, there were no phones or technology like today, only in the village did we have TV, so I didn't know much about traditional Tet. Later, when social networks became more developed, I learned that the Ede people also celebrate Tet like the Kinh people, but in form it is much simpler," the beauty queen said.

It's simple, but for H'Hen Nie, Tet is truly warm. Material things may be lacking, but emotions are always full. The beauty still clearly remembers the times when everyone gathered to wrap banh tet, then gave them to the surrounding houses. The moment the whole family sat by the fire in front of the stilt house was so warm, chatting together and waiting for the moment of transition between the old year and the new year. This is something that she feels is extremely meaningful every Tet holiday. The beauty expressed: "On New Year's Eve, everyone in the family will light a fire, eat a meal together and sit and wait to watch the fireworks. I live a family-oriented life, so moments like that are very meaningful."

A chance to "let go"

After being crowned Miss Universe Vietnam, H'Hen Nie has always been a simple, rustic flower of the mountains and forests. This is one of the reasons why she is loved by fans. But within certain standards, H'Hen Nie still needs to maintain her public image. Only when she returns home can the Ede beauty queen truly be herself. Besides reuniting with her family, Tet is the time for H'Hen Nie to return to the simple things she experienced before leaving her homeland to pursue her career. In other words, Tet is an opportunity for H'Hen Nie to "take off" her role as a beauty queen.

H'Hen Nie cherishes every moment with her family during Tet

No longer wearing luxurious dresses, high heels... like when appearing at events, H'Hen Nie returned to being a normal girl like many other Ede girls. "It was the simplest outfit, wearing slippers or even going barefoot. At that time, no one recognized me as a beauty queen, because I was H'Hen Nie and everyone around me only saw me as a child of the village. I like to live true to myself, doing things that I like and have done before. I think that when working in the arts, I had to think and strain too much, so when I come home is when I feel most comfortable. Of course, people only see that when I am in the village. When I go to work, I am always neat and make sure that it is suitable for each place I go," the beauty queen shared.

"When I go, I miss my hometown, miss the morning glory soup, miss the eggplant with soy sauce", two lines of poetry by poet Tran Tuan Khai made H'Hen Nie see herself in them. Even though she has been to many places and enjoyed many delicacies, H'Hen Nie still misses the rustic dishes of her hometown. She craves the taste of her homeland, from the fresh air, the familiar sounds of the mountains and forests, and rustic dishes such as bitter melon, dried fish, fried noodles, grilled meat in bamboo tubes... "Every morning, I am awakened by the clear sunlight of the highlands and the chirping of birds before starting a new day. These are scenes that I cannot see in the city. I want to help my parents. It could be cleaning the house, picking coffee or harvesting rice in the fields... After that, the whole family has dinner together with dishes cooked by my mother, simple but delicious. It is delicious because I am very hungry after a day of work, and more importantly, I get to enjoy it with my loved ones", Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 confided.

That's what Tet is like for H'Hen Nie. The beauty shared that although she does more manual work than usual, it can be tiring... but it's fun. She sees this as a time to "heal" herself after a year away from home, thereby giving her more motivation to move forward with her next plans. The Ede beauty queen confided: "Tet is an occasion for everyone to bond, all worries are put aside and only care for each other. Me too, as long as I gather with my family and loved ones, I'm happy no matter what I do."

H'Hen Nie always wants to promote Ede brocade

Becoming a beauty queen, having traveled to many places and having the opportunity to interact with many cultures, H'Hen Nie is always proud of being an Ede girl. The beauty queen is always conscious of preserving and spreading the cultural identity of her people, especially brocade costumes.

"Although there are many changes in life, I still love and cherish what belongs to my childhood, family, and national culture and always want to convey it to everyone to preserve it. Tet is the best occasion for the Ede people to show off their most beautiful brocade costumes, thereby contributing to preserving and promoting traditional beauty. In recent years, people tend to wear brocade during Tet, both men and women, especially children. Every time I wear brocade, I am very proud and also apply it to many different types of costumes in life," H'Hen Nie shared more.
