iOS 17

Apple today announced iOS 17, the next operating system for the iPhone, with a host of new communication and sharing features. First up is Live Voicemail, which lets you know what they’re saying and whether it’s worth listening to by reading text displayed on the screen without having to pick up the phone. Calls that your carrier identifies as spam will not appear as Live Voicemail but will instead be rejected immediately. Call transcription happens only on the device.

Contact Posters Feature

iOS 17 has a new personalized call screen called Contact Posters. You can change how they appear and choose from beautiful images, memoji, fonts, and colors. Another new feature is NameDrop, which makes it easier to share phone contacts by simply touching phones together. SharePlay can now share a video/music stream between two devices.

Check In Feature

FaceTime supports leaving voice and video messages when you call someone and they don't answer. You can also interact in FaceTime like dropping hearts, balloons, fireworks... They are activated with simple operations, applicable to third-party applications. In particular, from now on you can make and receive FaceTime calls on Apple TV, or start a call on iPhone and continue the call on Apple TV.

The Journal app is available in iOS 17, helping you take notes on everything. The keyboard in iOS 17 is improved thanks to AI, increasing the accuracy of word prediction, autocorrect, new voice recognition. iMessage has upgraded search capabilities with filters, swipe to reply function, voice message transcription, etc.

Apple is also bringing a Check In feature to iOS 17. Once enabled, your friends and family will automatically be notified when you arrive at your destination. If there is no activity, they will receive information about your device's location, battery level, and cellular service status.

Live Voicemail Feature

As rumored, the iPhone maker introduced the StandBy feature in iOS 17, turning the iPhone into a smart display when placed horizontally. It displays a beautiful clock, your favorite photos, or other utilities.

With iOS 17, you don’t need to say “Hey, Siri” to activate the voice assistant, just say “Siri.” Apple Maps supports offline maps, and Safari adds a layer of protection when browsing privately. The Health app gets a suite of mental health features, while Apple Music has Collaborative playlists to enjoy with friends.

iPadOS 17

iPadOS 17 finally gets a customizable lock screen, a feature Apple introduced in iOS 16 a year ago. It lets users customize the wallpaper, choose different widgets, and play with fonts. It supports dynamic widgets like food orders, travel plans, and sports scores.

Apple also delivered on its promise to bring the Health app to the iPad, taking advantage of the larger screen to display health data in the most visible way. iPadOS 17 will have the Journal app like iOS 17.

Health App

Apple is focusing on PDFs in the Notes app. Using machine learning, Notes will identify fields in a PDF file to annotate with Apple Pencil. According to software lead Craig Federighi, iPadOS 17 brings new ways to organize notes and collaborate on PDFs.

macOS Sonata

macOS Sonama is the latest operating system for Mac computers. It includes a number of new features such as screen widgets, improvements in the Messages and Safari apps, a new Game mode that prioritizes CPU and GPU resources when playing games…

Widgets can be dragged and dropped from Notification Center to the desktop or imported from iPhone via Continuity if the devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.

An important feature of Safari on macOS Sonama is Profiles, which allows for separation of personal, business, school, and work accounts.

watchOS 10

watchOS 10 lets you see information from any watch face with widgets. Apps in the operating system have also been redesigned. The background color in the World Clock will reflect the time of day in different time zones. watchOS 10 also adds two new watch faces: Palette and Peanuts.

The update also brings mood tracking through the Mindfulness app, allowing users to scroll through a series of moods and metrics, and the Health app will then provide information based on this data on the iPhone.

Apple also wants to reduce the risk of nearsightedness in people by using the ambient light sensor to display the time of daylight activity. The distance measurement feature on the iPhone and iPad uses the TrueDepth camera to measure distance while reading to reduce eye strain and detect vision limitations.
