Defender scores two own goals, Feyenoord loses bitterly to Atletico Madrid
Playing at home, Feyenoord entered the match strongly and created great pressure on Atletico Madrid in the 5th match of Group E of the Champions League on the evening of November 28.
Feyenoord must win to keep their hopes of reaching the round of 16 alive as the gap between the Dutch team and the two teams above them, Atletico Madrid and Lazio Roma, is two points and one point respectively.

In the 8th minute, Feyenoord almost had the opening goal but striker Yankuba Minteh's shot in a face-to-face position with the goalkeeper went just wide of the post.
While creating many attacks on the away team, Feyenoord suddenly conceded a goal in the 14th minute. From a not-so-dangerous cross from Atletico Madrid on the left wing, defender Geertruida fumbled and let the ball hit him and change direction, going straight into the net, leaving goalkeeper Justin Bijlow helpless.

Having conceded first, Feyenoord pushed forward in search of an equalizer but were unable to penetrate the visitors' tight defence and went into the break trailing by a goal.
In the second half, the first half scenario continued to repeat itself when Feyenoord started the game better but still conceded a goal. From a pass from his teammate on the left wing, Hermoso volleyed in a half-pass, half-shot style but the ball went straight into the top corner of the goal, leaving goalkeeper Bijlow unable to block it.
Feyenoord's hopes of a point were rekindled when they reduced the deficit to 1-2 in the 77th minute, when midfielder Mats Wieffer headed past goalkeeper Jan Oblak after a corner kick from his team.

However, just 4 minutes later, defender Santi Gimenez extinguished all hopes of the home team when he scored an unbelievable own goal. From a free kick from Atletico Madrid on the left wing, Santi Gimenez rushed out to head the ball like a striker, causing goalkeeper Bijlow to fly as far as he could but still could not block it.
Atletico Madrid won 3-1 against Feyenoord to secure a ticket to the Champions League round of 16 as group leaders despite still having one match left in the group stage.
The remaining ticket also belongs to Lazio Roma when the Italian team defeated Celtic with a score of 2-0 in the same match (4 points more than the third-placed team Feyenoord with only one round left).
